Hi all,
Just about to leave Brisbane & head home to Maitland on the Yorke Peninsula, were heading through Broken hill & going to stop off in Tipooburra for a week (need to find my first piece of gold). We would like to camp out & detect were we camp, I'm keen, wife not so much, She is happy to camp out in the van which is self contained, water, including grey, solar, toilet, etc, but likes sleeping in & reading books etc. we also have a furry friend with us. I have read threads on Tipooburra that I could find, but any help I can get would be great. Happy to pay to camp & detect, just not 100 percent where to go, heard road house is best place to start, thanks in advance for any advice,
Cheers Lindsay

A couple of days camped in the caravan park or the Aboriginal camp ground detecting the common is a good start talking to others , from there Gumvale station is lovely country for a look.
The Milparinka Hotel for a beer with the couple that own it and a look at the ruins and restored heritage buildings is worth the stop.

good luck.

Hi yplindsay
I’ve been home for 3 weeks after spending 2 weeks camping out of Tibooburra and I’m already planning the next trip. My wife is not a prospector but wanted the red dirt, mulga and long bush walks. We both got what we wanted.
Some things we would do next time; take more cash. Need to pay for camping and prospecting on Gumvale and Mt Stuart station in cash, so it was 15 a day prospecting and 5 each for camping.
The general store has great hamburgers and coffee, make sure your gas bottles are all full and bring your own wines. The pubs are great but not cheap. They all did well as we spread the love around.
Cheers Andy

For your first trip I would camp on the Easter Monday diggings. It's only 5 minutes from town and has good phone and net recaption. Take a sturdy rake with you and rake flat some of the dry blower heaps. You will certainly get your first pieces of gold. Keep to the flats and not the main hill.

Make that your base and use your vehicle to explore the second and third tracks on your right heading towards Camerons Corner They are only a couple of k's down the road. They head up into the foot hills and there's plenty of workings up there to keep you interested. Remember low and slow and continually scrape the ground with your coil or you will miss gold. ;)

Might be worth reading an article I did recently in the gold detecting section of the Forum....Good luck out there..Wal.

Thanks for the info, will chase up your article,

Good luck out there Lindsay. You are picking the best time to go as you won't freeze at night but still good temp for the campfire. You are also in an area where you won't get lost. ;)
