Know BH quite well. You can find almost anything around there in any direction. Gold is a possibility. Further afield youve got gold up north which is well known, but if as you say you are closure to town then I would be looking at old laterite soils which essentially grow small to large nuggets non of which are alluvial. The nearest analogue would be the Portia deposits just over the border in SA. So it is well possible that there could be some similar accumulations nearer BH. I would sample out the creek bed on a small grid and in particular get down to the bedrock or a clay bottom. Use a hand auger is a good tool. See what shape your sampling suggests and look at the relationship to the surrounding topography.

Hi again Araluen ,
These gold deposits are less then 8-ks out of town , appreciate the information about old laterite spots !
Have tried digging down in this big dry creek but only hit damp deep fine gravel .
The gold field not that far nth of here ( not Tibooburra ) was a ripper for those who got on before the shut out .
See http://www.bedrockdreams.com/2012/08/australias-koonenberry-gold-belt.html
