If feral pigs can dig square holes in sticky black clay, they are doing a pretty good job of it. :D

Had a great hunt tonight, completely new area with what seemed to be an abundance of pre-decimals and silvers found in a relatively small area so far. 2 degrees temps didn't make for the best conditions, though that was forgotten as soon as the coins started rolling in.

The half pennies included 1917, 1922, 1953, 1943, 1948, and a semi key date 1914. For the pennies - 1922, 1927, 1945, 1948, 2 x 1951, and a 1961.
The silvers included seven sixpences - 2 x 1925, 1944, 1946, 1951, 1955, 1960, and 1921, 1943 threepence. Lastly, a 1947 Florin finished off the night on a high.

The ring and Gemini pendant are both junkers unfortunately, though plenty of silvers made up for that. :)

This sort of a hunt should get reproduced in a special Mods thread that only a Mod is allowed to put stuff in,..we could only pass on recommendations to do it via the report button,.. A no comments thread(by others) so it's a kind of view only thread,. some where to retreat to for a browse when no one else is active, I'd call it "The Awesome Hunt of Memorability" thread. Could have one for Gold and one for Gems as well. ;)

Sounds like an idea silver, some other forums have a "memorable" tag highlighting significant finds, making it easier to scroll back to check them all out. Might be easier to add that function in versus managing a separate section, though will consider the idea - will have a yack to the other mods/admin.

I must say I was disappointed not to get a shilling last night, probably just being greedy, but they always seems to be the elusive one when trying for a full house. 8.(

I also don't think the area has ever been detected, the florin was only about 3" down, also had a couple of pennies almost sunbaking on the surface, though the some of the sixpences were quite deep, some were almost down to the full length of the lesche. Also very little junk or iron to deal with thankfully, very quiet ground - a dream for detecting. ;)

nice finds goldpick.
your hitting the silvers. now where are those gold ones we are looking for? seems to be plenty of coppers and silvers laying about. but not a hint of any gold coin.
they must be really scarce.
but your hitting some nice consistant silvers.
along with many other PA members. just no golds. that will be the day!
my last finds were a 1929 half penny, next to a 1942 one penny, close by to a 1920 one shilling, and a bit further a 1926 one shilling. some of my most consistant 'older finds' compared to an area with just 98%1940+
its just about hitting an area that had human occupance pre 1899 to perhaps score some gorgeous coins, silvers for example. and GOLD of course.so far the latest area i hit was definitely 1930's 2 nice 1920 1926 one shillings. my first king george shilling and in good nick! and 1929 half penny in beautiful nick.

your hitting some good spots

I probably don't find any gold coins as I do not intentionally target them as such, mainly looking for high conductors whilst trying to dig minimal junk. Though once the current spot area is cleaned out of most good high conductor coin targets, it might be worth investigating some of those mid range conductors considering the minimal amount of modern junk. I tried doing as such in the previously detected site, but was simply rewarded with a bag full of square tabs for my efforts, I guess you don't know if you don't try.

When you look at how regular sovereigns/half sovereigns are found across the forums, the chances of finding one are not that great, and those that do find them often spend a lot of time researching specific sites that may give them the best chance of making such a discovery (old pub sites and racecourses come to mind). :)

Thanks for that Heatho, will have to keep an eye on those numbers. Another forum also has the full sovereign reading consistently at 12:30 on the Etrac, so another one to keep an eye on. :)

Headed back my new spot to see what else I could conjure up, took the new Detech 13" Ultimate coil this time and was quite impressed with the results. This coil hits very hard on coins, almost sounds like they are on the surface, despite the depth meter saying otherwise. Also had a few targets which I left in the ground due to some ridiculous depths.

Found some very nice pre-decs with 1959, 1955, 1950 pennies and 1926 x 2, 1911 hp's rounding off the coppers. For the silvers I had a small spill with rams head 1946 and 1958 shillings in the same hole, a 1923 Florin, 2 x 1951 6p, and a lone 1926 3p rounding off my first full house - at long last! :D

I also had another spill of 5 x 1 cent coins from the Netherlands - 2 1952, 2 1964, and a 1963. The other coin is a New Zealand 1967 2c.

As for the relic side of things, managed a few toy gun parts, a couple of buttons, and two old lipstick tubes. :)

Yes very impresive indeed .
I have the same coil on my beach rig
Couldnt imagine using it in any of the parks ive visited though but as you previously mentioned you have very little rubbish at that site
