They're a decent guide to where golds been found but not a guarantee it's still there.
Also most of the areas require permission &/or permits for access to fossick, so you need to be aware of that too.

These days one must take into consideration the closures of fossicking areas, forests, etc. So research is a must. In NSW, Qld closures are increasing at an alarming rate due to stupidity by users and Indigenous Cultural reparations. Not sure what is happening in Vic. and the others but I wouldn’t be at all surprised that 2025 will see huge changes in Vic.
