Looking at getting a DD Leather bunji cord with a velcro shaft attachment for my GPZ 7000. Does it stay put or does it need regular adjustment? I am not using a 19" coil. What is your experience?
Thanks.

I swear by them, I wouldn't not use a GPZ without having one of those heavy duty bunji cords attached on the shaft, even when detecting with the smaller coils, rarely needs adjustment.
I purchased a hipstick thingy many years ago but have never felt the need to use it as with this setup I can detect for up to 10+ hours a day comfortably, and I am no spring chicken.
Of course what works and is comfortable for one prospector may not suit another one, so best to buy and try it out for yourself, they are not too expensive at around $40 or whatever they sell for now so wont break the bank.

PS: forgot to mention that I use a backpack similar to what came with the early SD detectors to carry my gear and water when prospecting in the hills so this acts as a nice counter balance to the detector and coil.
If you are only using the Minelab harness with this bunji it may not be as comfortable and well balanced to use for long periods of time.

Thanks for your reply. I have an existing bunji and the attachment on the shaft slowly slips up the shaft over time. The shaft attachment was my major concern. I haven't used a velcro attachment before.
Your set-up is very similar to what I have.

Thanks for your reply Hawkear. A zip tie does work with my current set-up using the 6mm bunji that came with the 7k. I need to get an 8mm bunji and my gut feeling is that a velcro attachment would slip as does my temporary set-up without a tie.Trying to keep it simple without the cable ties if possible. I will get the new 8mm bunji and see how it goes. If it needs a tie I will use one.

On the GPZ I've always had my wraparound bungy mount on the middle shaft, and purposely don't tighten it up fully. It basically slides up the shaft and the top camlock just in front of the handle stops it in position. Seems the perfect spot for it, and being a little loose means I can slide the shaft up when I'm done for the day.

Just received 8mm bunji and will set it up over the weekend.
I will try out your set-up and see how it goes. Thanks for the info.

I use a strip of non-slip mat under the traditional velcro bunjii attachment. It stops the easy sliding up the shaft while detecting and still allows quite easy adjustment. I use this on GPX 5000 all the time.

Thanks for your post. Got the bunji worked out using PT's method of attachment on the 7000. My wife has something similar to what you suggested under the floor mats. I'll pinch a little in case a need to make any changes. Thanks.
