All of the predecimals are from the demolished site that I hunted last week. The rest was from a footy field that is used for little athletics.

G'day All,

Finally got a chance today to test out the new 10x5 coil on the ctx and it didn't disappoint. Located an old horse racing track on the parish map and went to check it out. Started at a small reserve and found $18.20 in decimals. Went for a walk to try and locate the flat part of the track. Found a small clearing and first tone was a 12:44, 13cm down and out came a silver coin. 1896 Gothic florin, what a way to christen the coil.

The next 1.5 hours we worked an area of about 10 squares, plenty of signals over 15cm deep. Concentrated on everything shallower and ended up with a 1953 shilling, 3 comm pennies 1916,1917 and 1921. 2 roo pennies 1948 and 1950. Half roo penny 1948. An old english penny from the 1800's. And 2 mystery items.

One is so worn that it will remain a mystery and the other is a surprise.

Turns out to be a 1774 Brazilian 40 Reis.

A long way from home but somehow managed to call Australia home.

Great day out spent with a great coil.

What a range of coins, those old racetracks can certainly prove a gold mine of pre-decs if you are lucky enough to locate one. I remember on kimbucktwo someone hitting the jackpot on an old racecourse, literally hundreds of pre-decs came to light over several hunts. :)

Next week will be the deeper targets then the 17" comes out to see if there is anything even deeper.

I'm pretty confident there is a sovereign hiding in the dirt.

The track is from around the 1860's as it's not on the older maps.

Went to a local park for an hour today.

Finds include a 1950 shilling, 2 x 1943 roo half pennies, 1944 roo penny, a 1920 comm penny and a 1853 Britannia half penny.

Also found a silver ring marked 1857 RIV, I assume that it's a from a bird.

Thanks goldpick.

I might go and pay them a visit to find out more.

Would the number be the date?

The id was the same as the shilling so I'd say it's silver.

The tags show the birth date of the pigeon, ID number, and organisation. So I am guessing one tag was still attached at the time, whether it was the age or ID, who knows - might pay to give them a call for clarification.

If it is indeed born in 1857, then this is probably what it might look like. ;)

Went out for a quick park hunt today.

$30 in spendables.

3 x roo pennies, 1 x comm penny, 4 x roo half pennies and 1 x comm half penny.

1946 florin.

250 grams of ones and two's.

5 rings.

One is 9ct with a diamond, one is missing but I have a spare that fits in the hole.

The other could be a naval ring, only stamp is Hong Kong on the inside.

Not bad for 2 hours.

Thanks guys.

Good thing about Sydney is that there are not that many detectorists.
