I was told a story a few years ago by someone that new someone that lived in the Eldorado area and he told a mate that he doesn't like to come home with less than 15 grams from high banking not sure if he meant for the day or for the weekend but hey 15 grams is a lot and I really questioned the authenticity of this claim but ol mate convinced me it was true as he had seen it and I have no reason not believe his words, he did say it was because of the design and the matting combined that he fine tuned for Eldorado is why he gets Knock Out results and I think the unit looked something like this one here by the way it was described to me...

Isnt that a sluicy high banker made in benalla

Well I can tell you one thing and that is that I would be no good at playing the game in the Australian history thread on this forum but yes it is ....

Has anyone ever used this design or seen it in action I must admit it looks like it has some great qualities I use the same matting in my sluice and I can tell you all with no word of a lie is that the mats will catch all of the finest of finest gold and rarely do you find gold in the lower mat unless you don't clean them every couple of hours leaving one with copious amounts of cons (Black Sand) to separate from the gold but never 15 grams.. in fact the best I have ever done was just over 3 grams in about 3 or 4 hours but that was using my gold sucker not a high banker or sluice.. ;)

I've been looking for that rubber matting everywhere. Does anyone know where I can get it?

Hi Daniel I tried to find them on ebay where I seen them cheap about 3 or 4 years ago but was unsuccessful, I purchased mine from Bunnings in Shepparton about 4 or 5 years ago maybe longer and about 6 or 7 months ago I seen the same mat at mitre 10 so they are about but as for a link for I couldn't find anything, I will look for the brand name on the mat and post it if I can .... defiantly worth the time to find them if you are in an area like Eldorado and the likes... though I will add that you must run the sluice on a less of an angle so it creates vortex type of wave in each hole once you put some material through the sluice it becomes pretty self explanatory .. best of luck..

That bunnings matting works a treat. I lay it over ribbed rubber with a couple of sticks of ply as riffles ( No bullin' ) and stupid fine gold is saved in it. Good water flow and a 15 angle to the dangle seems to do the trick. It's 2100mm long, 295mm wide and cobbled it together from a few sheets of 1mm gal The back of my car looks like this permanently and you'd be surprised where it gets me.

No worries. Next time I'm down on Reedy Creek, probably after Christmas. I based the design on an old photo of a river sluice that was set up in the Yackandandah Creek sometime in the 1860s. In those days they used blankets or choir mats to catch the fines. It's the length and width of it that catches the gold. I need to puddle clay before I throw it in, but I can shovel gravel straight into it.

Still no luck on the mats went to Clarke rubber and bunnings this afternoon. Did do a search online and found some in the states. Doesn't really help maybe if I get real desperate.

Hi guys, just got the gold bug and came across this forum. I'm a full time carer for my missus who is struggling at the moment with cancer. Been panning in my local creek when I get a chance but no gold to be found? Was wondering if anyone around the Yarra Valley sold paydirt/concentrate?
Cheers.

I don't really know how much. I guess it comes down to price. I'm not looking to get rich so the more material the better as I just need a hobby to break up the days but I can't leave the house for long so I can't get my own material to pan?
