This years flu getting around is a shocker, I haven't been hit this hard in quite a long time. If your health isn't the best or you have other long term health problems then be careful to avoid anyone who is sick with it. Felt like I was getting better the other day but went detecting yesterday in the cool wind and feel like crud again today. Rest up and take it easy if you get it.

Had it for 5 days now......

It's no good Heatho. Started like a head cold a week ago & been on my chest for the last few days now to. Same thing - thought I was coming good so did some work outside the other day & back to crud that afternoon. Can't shake the bloody thing at the moment.
Detecting at ST on hold for this week at least I think. :(

I should get the ***. About 25 or 30 years ago I had a proper flu and it put me in bed for two weeks. I was wretched. As a result I always smile when people with a sniffle or a cold say they have the flu. It took me a couple of months to get over the episode and get back to firing on all cylinders, and that was when I was young and healthy!

So rest up and look after your self Heatho.

I got the *** last week. Had a couple of bouts of flu for several years and while the basic flu was over in a week or so, in each case I had an ongoing bronchial cough for several months that was very hard to get rid of. Haven't had the flu at all for the last 3 years since having the ***, so is a definite must for me as an old bloke.

I think I'm finally starting to get on top of it so I don't think it's going to be as bad as the one you had DrDuck but this one did hit hard and fast and has some pretty full on symptoms. It started off by feeling like there was pepper in my nose and then just spread back into my sinuses, throat and then all muscles and joints started aching, just glad it's not on my chest so far. Thankfully I gave up smoking a few years ago or I reckon it would have been much worse.

Hey Matt, yeah it's a bit of a sneaky one this one, start to feel good and then bam, hits again, sounds like the same or similar one. Am keen to catch you out at ST with the fellas, we're probably heading out on the 9th, though if this flu doesn't go by this weekend I'll probably put it off for a week also. Even last year when Shauno and his dad had the flu I was sitting the same room with them talking expecting it would hit me next but it never did, never seen Shauno so hammered either. He told me they feel great this year, I really don't want to infect them after getting nailed so badly last year, especially after what his dad's been through with his health in the past year.

Might even think about a flu shot next year.

I got it back then too, that was about 1987/88 Ish, bugga nearly wiped me out, LOl,

My brother and my mum get flu jabs every year and get sick as a dog, I never have them and I have not had a cold or flu for 16 years so far, Not even a Runny Nose or the sniffles.

Gotta remember that the other year when the vaccines were late for delivery by two weeks, that the flu season also started two weeks late as well. No one can tell me that the flu dna is not resurecting itself in peoples bodies. Myself personally, I recon if there were no flu jabs there'd be a lot less bouts of the flu goin round. Would help if they closed the airports off to sick people as well.
Stay safe and steer well clear of the sick..... avoid them like the plague ( :D )
And remember too.... money is dirty stuff, the sick care not as they spend it willy nilly snotty fingers n all. :Y:

I agree, My doctor tried to give me a flu *** and just as he was about to stick it is my arm I pulled away and said what are you doing ?, He said giving you a flu ***, I said No your bloody Not, Why are you giving me that ? he said to stop you getting flu, I said well I haven't even had a cold in 15+ years and my family have those jabs and get real sick, I don't have them and never get sick, I told him if you give me that thing and I get sick I'm going to come back and I'm going to be bloody annoyed, Then I found out that over here they paid so much for giving out flu jabs from the government,

Still even though I have never got sick and my family does within days of having the jabs I still have not convinced my family that it is those jabs that are making them sick, Lol.

The flu vaccine is free if you are over 65 and is a good idea as the flu could lead to worse respiratory conditions in those people.

The vaccine wont always work though as chemists only make a educated guess with what strain they mix up in the vaccine that year. It also takes about 2 weeks for your body to produce the antibodies to help boost the immune system.

I doubt you can catch influenza from the *** as it is administered intramuscular and the influenza virus enters the body through the repository system.

There are also other viruses that are similar to influenza that the vaccine wont protect you against.

Will be getting the quad vaccine this week, hopefully it will provide some level of immunity ! Last year was a disaster even after taking the shot.

It is a fact that the jabs give people a measured dose of a flu virus because that is what a vaccine is and everyone I know who has those jabs gets sick for about 3 or 4 weeks within days of having the ***, It is not by accident that I have not become sick, I bet if anyone here has the *** they will be ill within days of having it.

Had the flu once about 1988 i think. The most horrendous week and a half ever .Have never been that sick ever .So im hearing Dr Duck .So please dont think the common cold and some other ailments are the flu .Ps i dont and wont get get the ***.

Amen to that :Y:

I remember that flu bug well, It hit me so hard driving on the way home from Brisbane to the Sunshine Coast, I fell out of the Truck and went up stairs on my hands and knees, That was the worst I have ever felt from getting sick in my life, Never again fingers crossed.

Yes the vaccine does use a dead strain of the infuenza virus but i think the rest of your statement is mostly anecdotal

It's not anecdotal at all. It's a fact that everyone I know who has that *** Gets sick every winter and I have had One cold since 1993 and that was in 2002 and I have not even had the sniffles, and my brother ended up in bed for a week my mother ended up in hospital and my son ended up sick for about 3 weeks.

Don't tell me it is anecdotal, I am not super human and suffer with some health issues and I can think of at leased a dozen members of the family and friends that end up sick every time they have those jabs.

Never had the *** ..probs never will either..Got whooping cough really bad about 10yrs ago that nearly killed me and haven't been sick since :Y: Think it boosted the immune system :D

RR: In my almost 15yrs in the health field i dont agree with your statement and i am calling it anecdotal.
Also were i work all the workers get the *** for free each year and not once have i seen all the staff get sick all at once.

I agree, I provide the flu shot free for all my employees. It did save the life of an employee last year due to complications from being a smoker.
