I'm not saying it's anything apart from a very suspicious bone that was actually dug up from an old passage that was backfilled. I placed it back down straight after finding it as the photos were for identification later as I was and still am on the hunt for gold in that mine

Could be bones from a Wallaby, the cloth like substance most likely its hide.
Despite the fact that many dead bodies have been thrown down Mine Shafts i doubt you have human remains.

Better to report it than live with doubt best case is results identify animal bone, the cloth material would be enough to raise my suspicion

Some rather deep shafts between Nerrina and Creswick. Could be the odd bod down there with slow greyhounds for company. The diggers equivalent of 'sleeping with the fishes'. Dead men tell no tales.

GeoVic website by the government is really good for finding shafts, particularly in Ballarat where most have been documented. All of the open shafts and adits etc at Black Hill are on there to the exact location.

Gidday, JesseCR000. Welcome to the forum.

I used to use Forest explorer on an old computer i had and have just registered on GeoVic. Looks like it works similar to the way Forest Explorer worked, but i can`t find how to get the drop down menu that shows you all the layers with mines,waterways,tracks,properties etc etc . I tried the search button on the top of the page , but no cigar.
I am obviously not seeing something here.

Any ideas on how i find this ,please ?

Hey just starting. On the earth resources website page that links to GeoVic 3 there is a link to a help sheet that has good help for it. I do know that it is the middle dropdown tab on top of the left column where the visible features are displayed. The overlay I use is labelled gold prospecting but additionally you can hit the green plus button and add specific features individually.
Unfortunately I have not posted enough to be able to include links in my posts or I would include the help page

Got it.

Now i can see why my next door neighbour gets more water in his dam than i do. He has 2 underground drains going directly into his and i only have one.
One runs through my property into my dam and also to his and he has another coming from his neighbour on the other side. Well , there you go.

I`m going to explore info on some of the mines i`m interested in. A couple appear to be missing from the map i pulled up and i found others i didn`t know were there.
Other websites list an open cut mine i have been to ,but this website only lists the name of the company running it and not what the mine was known as. I`ll have to play around to get only the info i need and get rid of some layers.
