The event I'm thinking of is the world's largest sporting event of its kind. It is a relative of the game that was on tonight!

The answer I was looking for is the Junior State Cup, held every year in Wollongong, and featuring 4500 players, 311 teams and an estimated 7000 supporters chasing five boys and five girls junior age titles.

It is regarded as the world's biggest touch competition.
