Not the metric system, although that happened at more or less the same time. The difference was that the metric system was introduced all over. This was not. You are skating around the correct answer, though.
The 70's were the start in many ways of the Electronics and digital revolution, with the invention of transistors and Integrated Circuits in the late 60's, companies now found ways to use the technology which caused the phenomenal growth in smaller more powerful and cheaper products ranging from Calculators to Televisions.

Not the queen, or fluoridation. Some states agreed to this innovation back in the early 70's, but backed away quickly. As I said, the longer history goes back a long way, and is associated with the two world wars.

Conscription is a good try, back creek, but not what I had in mind. The thing I had in mind was introduced successfully in WW1 (and WW2), while conscription failed in Australia during WW1 in two plebiscites.
What I am after was particularly unpopular in Queensland.
