Very good question. There were two blokes by this name (spelt Muscuito), but the one I think you are thinking of was reputed to have this exchange with his goaler:

Musquito was said to have insisted his execution was useless as an example to the Aborigines, and to have told Gaoler Bisdee, Hanging no good for black fellow. Bisdee asked Why not as good for black fellow as for white fellow, if he kills a man? to which Musquito replied Very good for white fellow, for he used to it.

Gold net Australia online magazine? Maybe was a little later than 1997 but must be close. Heavily featured the early minelabs so thats what I base my guess on. Excellent publication even if the answer is incorrect, some valuable info in those pages. Theres a head start for newbies and seasoned guys alike.
