I think Jaros should have a go as I am off to Qld tonight for a few weeks on business and haven't the time I'm sorry to come up with a brain twister. :)
Over to you Jaros

I am a place of many bends and winds. People come and go all the time but few if any stay for long.
I have a contentious past in one area but am slowly getting better.
I either drive people crazy or make some smile.
Some even become so engrossed in me they forget why they are there or even if they were there.
Only to return to make more friends than sit on a computer to talk about me.
Where and what am I.
A few roads cross me.
I am a remote place, In NSW.
But I am in/close to a large gold producing area.
Um, Trying to think of a clue,
Um, Bits of rocks, Bit of Sand, Bit of Gold.
Did I mention the Fuggets ?
I am not a town.
I can be angry, I can be calm, But,
After I have run my path we who do venture do smile
I am mentioned a lot on this forum

1. I am a place of many bends and winds. (A River)
2. People come and go all the time but few if any stay for long. (Every one goes to Oallen I am yet to go but will )
3. I have a contentious past in one area but am slowly getting better. (The Bridge)
4. I either drive people crazy or make some smile. (Flour Gold. Very Fine)
5. Some even become so engrossed in me they forget why they are there or even if they were there. (Some of the camps I have read were a blast)
6. Only to return to make more friends than sit on a computer to talk about me. (Yep, Every one talks about it, Goes there then comes back to talk more)
7. I am a remote place, In NSW. But I am in/close to a large gold producing area. ( Nerriga)
8. Did I mention the Fuggets ? (One person on here even panned a $2.00 Coin)
9. I can be angry, I can be calm, But, After I have run my path we who do venture do smile (Flour Gold is replenished after a Flood)

All The clues came of this forum. :) :) :)

Dr Duck was in on it. LOL

I did not mean to upset any one or destroy the Karma but it is an example on how to Google Proof something.
I will dumb it down a bit, Next Time.

Whew!! what a ripper question Tathraj.
I am a place in Australia that in my heyday trucked more cattle than major towns in the U.S.A.
I have a rich aboriginal heritage and are home to aboriginal tribes from around the Diamantina River, the Gulf and the Northern Territory. At my peak i even had a railway line.

Doug
Now I'm insulted. You do not have to dumb anything down just ask questions that can be answered either by skill or by hard work. Its was a stupid set of questions that meant collectively, nothing.
Im going to my room and suck my dummy now 8)

I have either seen this on the TV or read it in a book somewhere before.
Its a small town in Queensland near the NT border.

But I can't for the life of me remember its name.

Birdsville is on the Diamantina but never had a railway. Neither did Innamincka but ( early 1900's was a hub for the Aboriginals. They had a police officer who was employed to feed and clothe them). They had lots of cattle come though.
The only railway head that far north in the early days that I know of was Government Gums or Farina as it was later called. More study me thinks. :)

Called my elderly Uncle who is a train nut (especially steam trains ).
After a 1/2 hour lesson on the difference between narrow, standard and broad gauge lines in different States he finaly says its the old railway station at Degerah.

Do you mean Dajarra?

Not sure of spelling?....this was what he said
It was a phone conversation.

But I can now tell you all about different gauge railway lines in different States if you've got a spare 30 minutes on the phone ! LoL.
I love my Uncle heaps....but get him started on trains then lookout because you are in for a barrage.

You gotta love people that have a real passion for something. I googled your spelling and it came up as Dajarra, looks like you may be on the money.

That's it P+B.
Drovers would bring cattle from as far away as Western Australia to put them on the train at Dajarra. Then came the road trains and soon the railway was turned into just a memory.
The caravan park is a vacant block opposite the city shops with a VERY old ablution facility. But it was a safe place to be.
Over to you now mate.

Spoke to Tathradj on the phone earlier in the week, and he clued me in, but I had nothing, so I had to stay quiet.
I've been working up in Sydney for a few days anyway, but am looking forward to the next question.

When i camper travel I like to stay out of major centre's. Mt Isa is 150klm north of Dajarra. I new nothing of the place and even though we stayed only one night, we learned a lot from the locals and shopkeepers. Oddly enough the general store owner came from a suburb near us in East Brisbane. He made a great steakburger and coffee. I think it's the peace of the places, the people you meet in the parks doing the same thing you are-not wanting the hustle and bustle of daily city life. Even though,my wife still had to have the odd shopping break. Most of the little towns have the same attitudes and all these little things make the sameness more conducive to inner peace-it's a "nice", relaxing, no worries type of life. The light connection from car to trailer had slackened of somehow and the connector was very badly eroded but oddly enough the local shop also had 1 of them somewhere out the back of the shop. That reminds me, we also forgot one of our general purpose frypans and while we were having our steakburgers the shopkeeper came out and handed us an old frypan from the kitchen. It just needed a bit of a cleanup.
The site we stayed at was actually beside the old cattleyards and by the description the shopkeeper gave us and from what we had read on the brochures you could in your minds eye " hear the cattle rustling around the yards" and see the clouds of dust emanating from the post and rail boundaries"
Fantastic memories. Sorry i have got a bit carried away, but i feel fantastic right now.........
Jack

Its both interesting & sad to read the history of all the different towns who's populations have swelled and then died off due to just one industry.

I have not read this entire thread, so I hope this next question has not already been asked & answered ?.....but I doubt it.
