Thanks mbasko. I've got my permits all the way up to Bingara. Still , filling in holes isn't a hard thing to do. No wonder nundle guy us so upset.

Hey nugget? You still there? Can you or some one tell me how to upload my avatar? Every picture tells me that the file size is too big?

Your a dead set champion. Already can see see that this is going too be my favourite site. Now know why my kids love forums so much.

Yes mate ive been to Nundle a few times now. Im guessing your in the caravan park there in the cabins. I havent tried down behind the van park, except for the first time I was there, its been flogged. I normally head down stream to the csr places past where people free camp. Theres heaps of old workings there where you should detect up some old time relics. In the same areas I go to the inside corners go up the bank a bit and dig a hole. Your right about all the holes left, especially down the caravan park trail. If it was warmer I would suggest looking under the small waterfalls in the river but thats a summer job. Also if thats your first visit to the area make sure you go for a trip up to hanging rock, pretty good scenery up there.

G'day

Mate Nelson Bay is about 45min up the coast from Newie. About 20 beaches here :D . The Cells river is all under SCA now and out of bounds. I found out the hard way as it's still listed as state forest on maps and GE

Cheers

Chimpy

wouldnt be hard to not get caught, my housemates ride there bikes there regulary and never see anyone

Thanks
Pauly. Going up to hanging rock in the morn. Have been on Google maps and seen the black snake mine tailings. Getting excited. A 1 gram nugget would probably blow my mind? Half a gram?

Don't mean to sound like a wet blanket Squiz but there is a lot of people who take prospecting/fossicking/detecting seriously as a hobby & even though we don't always agree with the rules/regulations try to stick within them. By going into areas that you know are out of bounds you may risk being caught, which gives the hobby a bad name setting us back even further with access etc. There is associations in various states fighting to gain access back into some of the out of bounds areas & in my opinion we should all be trying to carry out our hobby with integrity by trying our best to play by the rules & promoting it as a low impact activity that can co-exist with conservation values. Its fairly simple to do - stick to allowable areas, remove your + any found rubbish & refill ya holes.
By posting on a public forum that your housemates are riding bikes in the area may also attract unwanted attention to their pursuits.
When I first started it was a bit daunting in regards to areas to go etc. but with some research there are plenty of legally accessible areas about.
Not having a go at ya mate just trying to help you enjoy it without the hassle :)

well ive been looking on the internet for places to go that arnt to far away and i have no idea what iam looking for or how to find information

What mbasko said exactly. There's plenty of history around Newcastle and you just got to think outside the box sometimes. For example I've just realised the old Gan Gan army camp is 5min up the road from me. Guess where I'm going today? I suspect it will be trash city.

Hey Squiz, maybe you could start off detecting local beaches and parks to get the hang of your new detector then moving onto historic sites as you find them?

Thats what im doing Matt. I detected my loungeroom and that was cool because I picked up all the floor nails, then onto the walls, it amused my girls no end. I took some pennies out onto the lawn and got way too many hits along with my pennies lol so off to the beach. Bury a beer cap and a coin then go from there. Just a thing on the conservation areas can you detect in them as long as you dont take anything natural. If your looking for man made relics opposed to gold etc. Obviously you would need to leave any natural gold where you find it.

Ps You could guarantee thats when youll find a 20kg nugget lol
