Thank you Loamer I think that with the information I have gained from your self this site and from what I have been able to find with that information I think my chances are fairly high of finding something anyhoo.
You are quite right about the out dated laws but I do like the fact that I can go Fossiking in a fair few locations (provided I have permission) without any need for a licence. The guy I spoke with at DMITRE said I could use Fossiking as a type of exploration and if I find a source I can peg it out and then go through the process of putting in a minerals claim.
Every one that I have spoken to (access to land) has been really nice, and helpfull.
I won't be starting my serious fossiking until April. I have picked out an area in the states north, have accumulated most of the gear that I need, I even have a friend that will do a fly over magnetic survey of the area (still don't know what it is but it sound's cool) and another friend that is going to call in a Geologist friend of his.
My hopes are high but my expectations are modest if I find something, cool, if not it's back to work.
