Yes, this machine is worth experimenting with the pinpoint mode in those situations. There’s something about PP that filters emi better as well. To compensate for the lack of depth in PP mode you could probably crank up the gain without upsetting the stability too much. I’ll have to see how effective it is when I get a chance on some hot ground.

Make sure you swing slowly in pinpoint mode, although most prospectors do, and obviously pinpoint goes out of whack every once in a while but easy to fix with a single button press. You can detect in pinpoint mode though, pretty interesting thing to experiment with and can be beneficial in some situations.

I've used pinpoint mode for finding coins, you do lose a little depth but you can crank the gain higher to compensate a bit.

As for lead pellets being hard targets, they often come up 00 even larger pellets, whereas gold rarely does, yes some very small gold does, a piece of gold weighing less than a pellet will come up with a greater number due to the spherical shape of the pellet being more difficult to detect, so in a heavy pellet area you can safely ignore pellets checking ID's knowing that the gold you do miss will be absolutely tiny, weighing less than the pellets you're rejecting. Pellets that are not lead are going to often read higher than 00, so all bets are off then.

The Target ID's are offering a new potential tool we haven't had in the past with a PI and I'm sure we will soon see this on other brands too, they won't want left behind.

I really like the Algo, yes, it's not a GPZ or 6000 but offers features they don't, and when it comes to bang for the buck it'd unrivalled. I see someone that owns an earlier GPX model benefitting the most, they can share coils and have its strong points completement their GPX very well, it will hit smaller gold, it will hit specimen type gold that the earlier GPX models miss, and it has the features like Target ID and it's insane ability to run in high EMI environment's the GPX series including the latest and greatest have no hope of handling, I can run the Algo in my lounge room at high sensitivity for testing with a mono coil no problems at all, try that with the GPX detectors.

I can see it being a valuable tool in the toolkit for many, espeically with it's price.

Just a few words about the Detection Modes.
Yes, Ultra Fine is the best choice if you are chasing very small gold, particularly specimens and other difficult types of gold (leaf, sponge gold etc), but you should also team that up with a very small coil.

The Fine mode and even Normal is still very sensitive, so don't be shy to get out of Ultra Fine if conditions dictate it. Once you increase coil size to say an 11" or 12" round, Fine and Normal will not only run smoother than Ultra Fine, they also have the potential to get you a little more depth on larger targets.

Well I’m hoping that my latest acquisition, which was very generously donated to me by a certain champion bloke in the NT
( Thanks Dave ),gets some extra depth on larger bits. It’s a 17 x 11 NF Advantage, which calibrates and works fine on my AlgoForce. I gave it a fresh coat of silver and it looks the part on the machine. For its size, being spoked it’s fairly light too.
Backyard tests in large gold mode showed some promise.
There are some top blokes here on PA, who would give you the shirt off their back.... Dave being one.

Re Adrians's (OzzieAu) stand in the Photo above, I would prefer something like a H with sloping sides the top of the H fitting into the current legs ( probably needs to be in 3 pieces) to get the rear of detector another 60mm off the ground.

But a good inovation, Adrian.

There is only one way to tell if these older coils will work satisfactorily on the AlgoForce and that is to bolt them on and do some testing. As for the 17x11 Advantage it seems to work fine when testing on bigger targets in the Normal and Large gold modes in my backyard,but there is no substitute for real world nugget detecting in variable ground conditions. Probably not as sensitive as the flat wound Evos.
I suspect these older 10x5 bundle wound coils will perform fairly well on the small shallow stuff.

If you tell them what coil you want, I'm sure they'd be happy to. I notice that Nenad's webpage for the AlgoForce lists half a dozen different coils for it that he stocks:

I left this out on my post above, it's an important step after the firmware upgrades for the Algoforce.

IMPORTANT: Always do a factory reset after your firmware is updated, you won't lose your coil settings or calibration, however it's important to ensure your new firmware operates correctly. You just go into the Miscellaneous (Info screen) at the end of the menus and hold down + and - and it will reset and you're ready to go

I have tried an older 10" round nugget finder of that same series, and it wouldn't calibrate in Ultra Fine. So you'd just have to try it. Most likely would still work okay in Fine if it didn't fully calibrate in Ultra Fine.

Go for a walk away from the scrapes. Look for piles of small rocks, usually 4 small rocks with 1 piece of quartz on top. That is how the local legend marks where he found a nugget. He used a 3500, and those little mounds were everywhere.
