Heads up, do you use a cig comet, with twin mixer pipes, or the harris with 3, with the lpg?

I have used comet model 3 and Harris handpieces , cant remember which cutting head I have now so its best to check their website , Harris have heaps of models but not all of them are multi fuel.

It cost me a bit to change over for type 44 tips to suit oxy / LPG but I save heaps on gas. ( note that using LPG requires about 10 % more oxygen than acetylene ).

I dont keep oxy / LPG gouging tips anymore as plasma gouging tips are cheaper than using gases and cleaner than carbon air arc gouging , be mindful that plasma can produce dangerous ozone gases plus metal fume and air arc produce metal fume and enriched carbon particulates , both hazards are to be treated seriously , I use a fresh air supply mask when using carbon arc.

Have you had issues with LPG ?

Tip when using gassless wire is use a tip 0.1 oversize. As gasslss wire is not perfectly round like standard. And deformation occurs in production.
Gassless wire actually needs a knurled roller on the feeder. As it is softer and slips.

Correct . And use a lighter spring pressure on the feed rollers when using fluxcored ( gas less ) wires.

I used a Harris hand peice years ago. With the 3 mixers, Pretty good torch. Was thinking recently of trackig one down soon.

I have a welder question as well. I have a cigweld 130 inverter portable dc welder. Can anyone tell me what size generator I would need to run it. Thanks

I have heard numerous Times that inverter welders need more power than non.
Due to needing a good constant even flow of AC in,
This might be outdated now since with newer tech.
Ive run similar with 4.5kva and up with no dramas.
The manufacturer should be able to give you an ac accurate answer without guessing but.

Is that a stick inverter welder?
Seems they do need a good flow, more than I remembered.
I remember some getting cooked at work over 15yrs ago from lack of power through a geni, And they $1800 back then for an esab unit.

Yeah a stick welder. Its about the size of a car battery with a carry strap for portability. It works well but I thought of taking it bush this year and wanted to know what would run it. I am going to run my wash plant for the first time and was looking at having it for alterations. Cheers

Sorry for jumping on your thread PJG. I just thought it was a good place to get both questions answered. Regards Rick

Not a problem at all. I need all the help and info I can get. Bought a second hand Mig about twenty five years ago. It was ok but never entirely happy with it. Dont want that trouble again.

Has someone given you a good run down on your old mig yet
I sold it about fifteen years ago when I moved to the Gold Coast. No room for it. Now looking to get back into making things again.

To much talk on proffetional machines if your only wanting to do odd jobs here and there look up the range of Rossi mig welders on eBay will be more than capable for what your post said cheers muk.

Make sure the fuse on your house is 15 to 20 amp then you won't keep tripping it. Older house fuses are renowned for it. Bunnings sells them for around $10.

Baz.

Thanks all. May all your days be golden.

BTW Muk the Dolly Pot works a treat. Thanks. :Y:

Gday PJG will have to catch up sometime Im flatout at work at the moment but will sort something out soon cheers Muk.

hi mate as being a panel beater by trade plus worked in sheet metal making cylos, the migs that you can buy from bunnings ...ozito gasless model, will do the job for thin to mid thickness metal, anything heavy duty you will need a good mig on gas or a el cheapo stick welder will do the same. ive had the ozito one for 5 yrs now no problems at all, just change the tips regulary, my mate has a $150 cig unit about 8 yrs old from bunnings 130 amp, we have welded some thick metal with this unit. i think my mig maxes out at 90 amp on hi. hope this helps mate. :Y:
