As once stated on the final episode of Season 3 on the BBC comedy show The Detectorists.
Metal detecting is the closest youll get to time travel.
Archaeologists gather up the facts, piece the jigsaw together, work out how we lived and find the buildings we lived in.
But what we do is different... we unearth the scattered memories, mime the stories, and fill in the personalities
Detectorists, were time travellers.
At least in some point in time, almost all of us have been asked Why do you do this hobby?
Lots of people stop and ask me in the parks.
Well for me, detecting is a hobby to escape from the modern world, it is a distraction with benefits,
when getting out in the field for a few hours of fresh air that can be done individually,
but is also a fun social activity to experience with others.
No matter whether one enjoys searching for coins, jewellery, modern relics,
historical relics or anything at all, like maybe. gold.
And this forum, its a place for all of us individuals to meet and communicate with each other about our experiences,
our finds and to help each other. Whether it be help with identifying an item, a site, where to find records and data from (physical or digital copies),
or help with how to find a place that may supply a source for gold or gemstones.
It is a place for community, for time travellers each of our own. For us to share the scattered memories we have uncovered,
a place for everyone to have an opportunity to mime out their own story, whether it be about your own or others discoveries.
And overall, a place with people who are all different in their own individual way.
But we all share one thing in common the passion for a hunt.
Gemstones, Metal detecting, Gold panning, Geology, Geography, History, Technology, Outdoors,
Mateship. ..
In Dads case, pulltabs
On this Forum, we all have a passion and we all share at least one of these interests.
The support I have had from the Forum members is just amazing, and it pushes me that bit more.
I have been doing this with Dad since I was two years old swinging a coil for Ferraro Rocher chocolates in the sand; Captain Feather Swords golden treasure.
Little did Dad or I know then, just how much I would love this hobby and the forum, what I would learn from the community,
what would be shared with me.
15Yrs old now and yet to look for gold, but again a Forum member has offered me that opportunity too.
It is a very special place, I would even say a second home to some of us.
