Whoa nice relics Goldpick , must be time for the Goldpick and pay museum store :p

Put it this way, I've invested in quite a few storage containers from Bunnings to properly store all my finds, not really into selling off items of local history. I have a few items I would like to donate to various institutions, just have to get my backside in gear to make it happen - better than having them sitting around doing nothing. ;)

Tested out two new locations today, first being a railway camp that we walked straight past initially, only to pick up three half pennies on the side of the track on the way back to the car which denoted the correct spot. Not much else came from there other than the very nice lighter, cigarette case and a few bottles from small dump (green bottle is from Bickfords).

Second site was some more ruins, been meaning to get back there for a while now after initially locating the base of a house, though access was pretty ordinary at the time. Really didn't have much time left before sundown to investigate the area, though fortunately things looked quite positive with a first dog tag from 1937-38, fob watch innards, buckles, and a cool pair of British WW1/2 general service buttons, complete with their shanks. :)

GP, given the choice...would you rather dig lots of relics, with few coins OR lots of coins, with few relics?

Relics with a few coins, the history and research plays a big part in that. I also like the challenge of finding what coins are still left on many of these previously detected sites, the Deus is perfect for sifting through such difficult sites.

Either way, you are pushing to get older coins in any great numbers down here, simply down to the smaller population compared to city areas. :)

Finally got onto my new permission today, conditions were wet and muddy, with zero degree temps not helping either. Upon arriving at the site, we were told that a house used to exist in an open paddock, with only a derelict shed and bathhouse remaining. I was running the trusty Deus with the HF 9" coil and running the HOT program, whilst Mrs Goldpick took her Teknetics G2 and 13" Detech Ultimate coil.

After a few awkward minutes of trying to climb through a fence loaded up with detecting gear, we realised the fence was only 20 metres long, and we could have simply walked around it - doh! :8

Not knowing what the heck we were going to find, I started off with a flower pendant as my first decent find, and things got pretty busy from there on in. I reckon we only scratched the surface on coin finds, they were all over the place - even in the last five minutes before leaving I pulled a Victorian 1874 penny and 1931 penny from the ground on the way to the car. Relics were everywhere, toy pistols, broaches, buckles, dog tags, horse tack and so on.

One patch next to a pine tree provided at least 10 predecimals, including two florins, sixpence and an early 1900's worn threepence. Across the other side of the paddock there was a patch of decimal coinage thay provided some entertainment for a while (BB's).

We actually ended up with a total of four dog tags, one of which I gave to the property owner along with an early penny for the kid's show and tell.

It really was the most fun I have had in a long time, and as a bonus there is the likelyhood that we will gain permission from another land owner to access and old racecouse, and also an old school site from yet another landowner - apparently neither have been previously detected.

Hope you enjoy the pics - lots of them! ;)

What a great hunt, glad you finally got a decent amount of coins to go with all the cool relics.
And you must be the dog tag king with the amount you have found. :Y:

Thanks Ktmman, it was indeed a relief to find a virgin site at last with regards to coins. I reckon there may be a fair few smaller silvers deeper down, though a bit hard to concentrate on the fainter targets with so many other coins around, and also a limited amount of time.

Great looking hunt Gp !
Glad you got on with some good coinage this time mate !
Nice silvers. :p O:) :rainbow:
:Y:  :Y:

Holy wow look at all of the eye candy....That is a fantastic spot and I am sure you're going to be pulling out some more great finds... OLD racecourse sounds interesting...Love the big Silver woop woop... :) :Y:

As always , a great assortment :)
Awesome photos ;)
Geez its nice and green down there.
Isnt it great when one permission opens up to others?
Especially with the possibility of great potential :p
Good luck

Obtaining more permissions was totally unexpected, I didn't even ask about any other sites considering I was too busy detecting his block. Turns out my workmate was yacking to his dad who lives in another house just down the road, and he came up with contacting some farmers about the other two sites (small world out here).

Got to love the oldies, a wealth of knowledge and all too willing to help out. :D

Bit of a nightowl tonight, trying out the crayons on some crusty pennies. This 1911 penny was so bad on the obverse that you couldn't even see the monarch, a quick clean worked extremely well aside from some small spots of stubborn corrosion. I have to reiterate not to be too heavy handed using the pencils on the detail or blebs of corrosion, otherwise you will break through to the underlying bronze - the scourer is a lot less invasive.
