Hi Golden River,
Looks like a small quartz crystal to me (look at it end on if six sided its quartz crystal four sided topaz.) Diamond testers work but can give false positives if stone has any oil on it, wash in metho first. Of course its easy to take it to a gem club and touch it on a coarse diamond lap, anything but diamond will see a facet cut.

Golden Rivers's crystal looks like a piece of quartz crystal as above to me. Little clear bright crystals which are panned are often zircons being higher refractive index but as far as I know all quartz has much the same refractive index.

Managed to make it out for a few hours on the weekend and picked up a few tiddlers. Nothing special but we didnt come home empty handed.





Threw them in with the rest of the collection, looked so colorful in the light this morning.

Do you clean them up with oxalic? They always sell fast for me

what is oxalic and where would I find it ? I cleaned with a toothbrush

Oxalic acid, its corrosive so wear gloves and be warey. Put a few teaspoons into some water over night and it will make the quarrtz nice n pretty. Theres youtube vids can be bought from the hardware
