    Miners Pick - Handle

Hi Phantom, Im not sure where you can get one but some research should help there. Ash, oak or hickory would be your best bets. Probably from somewhere in the US. Let us know if you find anything. TGW.

Can I bring in Gold that I find from the Philippines?

Id bring back any finds in a plastic vial definitely not glass and dried out too as the customs people might be a bit sus on the local water quality. That way you can decalre it at customs and everything is nice and legal so little chance they can give you grief. Dont exactly know what the...

    Acid to dissolve quartz ?

Hi Peko, I do know that Phosphoric acid eats concrete floors but not sure of how it would react to quartz. Same rules as HCL apply, well ventilated and chem gloves etc. Just make sure it doesn't mix with a strong base ie sodium hydroxide or similar. Personally id rather use thermal shock to...

    worth working a shallow digging.

Depends whether whoever dug them was onto the pay streak or if they were just doing a bit of sampling themselves. Have a close look at the side walls and see if there was something in the strata that they were chasing in particular. Just be careful the banks dont collapse if the workings are...

A LIVE CHAT ROOM WOULD BE GOOD

Agree with you Mbasko, unnecessary with the forum setup. Also would make life harder for our mods and would probably mean an extra mod or two to keep the trolls and such in check. Just my opinion there, ultimately its up to Harry and the mod team. TGW.

    need help with a sluice

Its a tricky one Ben, theres a little bit of angles and such in it but mostly trial and error until you find what is working best. Especially since different creeks have different gravel and it doesnt always behave the same. Classifying with the 1/2 inch (14mm) is fine, remember that when your...

    Implications of this Scenario

There is no tax payable on gains made from prospecting as a hobby within the bounds of your miners right/ licence. Here in Qld, there is a limit on how much gold you can find and sell without incurring royalty payments to the crown. The threshold is $100,000. Check the regulations associated...

Have a look at daihatsuauto.com.au, bought a gearbox for my detomaso charade years ago. There in brisbane so not sure what the freight will be like to ship a whole motor. Still miss my charade, tourqie little 1.6, Lim Slip Diff and wider tyres. Ran like it was on rails. Sorry, enough...

    Newbie from Cairns

Gday CE, welcome to the forum and prospecting in the far north. If you can, drop into our next meeting on August 20th at the miners den. You should be able to pickup a better idea of things there and can ask some of these questions in person even though most of us from the forum are gold...

So I was informed today that I will be made redundant "soon".

Feel for you POG, I hate when business managers arent upfront about things like this. They were gambling with your livelihoods and didnt say a word. Hope something good comes out of your situation. Regards, TGW.

    Find the gold

Gday Clea2782, think youll have a tuff time there. Most detectorists seem to head down not up on their trips. Places like flat creek station and cloncurry are the most frequent. Drop in and talk to George at the Nq Miners den on Anderson St, he may point you somewhere closer. Mention...

    Turbo pan.any good?

It has its place in the pan hierarchy, Ive spent the time and practice getting to know my turbopan and its strong and weak points. I mostly use mine as a sampler, having only the 10in version it needs a more cautious technique but has never failed to recover visible gold. I also use it as a...

    Homemade Hand Crevicing Suction Pumps

Thanks for the input Daniel, I had thought of using some rawhide with a polypropylene plunger. Might still give that a go, it was just easier at the time to use rubber. Over time that rubber will wear out and ill replace it again. Cheers, TGW.
