Seems to be rare to find any silvers at some of these older spots, either they were really poor, or all the easy pickers had already been found by previous detectectorists. Only a lone threepence so far, and even that was so worn that it couldn't be dated.

Interesting pick ups still GP, 1800s coins always a winner would you happen to know what the perforated mesh stuff is? Is it an old lead acid batt? I wasted an jour not long ago plucking heaps of it out from a hole

I did a sneaky today, and palmed off our visiting relatives with the missus for several hours whilst out of town, so managed a few hours detecting in the arvo. Once again, back at the Victorian coin hotspot for some more gridding, first few hours turned up nothing much of interest except some shotguns shells, lead, projectiles, and a small buckle.

Not wanting to go home empty handed, I continued gridding for another hour or so, and was greeted with a reasonably large target. At first I thought it was junk till I turned it over and spotted the wording on the outer edge, "Champion with bat & ball". Yet another bucket list item, a complete cricket buckle at long last!

A metre away from the buckle dwon the same grid line, I picked a sweet sounding high conductor which could only be a coin, a rather deep 1872 sixpence in excellent condition.

I reckon the Deus has managed to pick up more bucket list items in the last year than my other detectors have managed over the last couple of years, very pleased with its performance so far.

Very nice finds GP, well done, gotta happy with the coin but that cricket buckle is awesome.

Thanks guys, one of these buckles has been on my list for a long time, frustratingly in the past I have only manage to find bits and pieces from them, as they can be quite fragile. Seems like to find one of these you have to be no where near an old cricket oval, more like a swamp in this case.

Yes, there is actually still a fair bit of gold gilding on it, don't think I am game to clean it up anymore, other than just removing the soil. Would have looked great in its day fully gilded.

With the Etrac gone, I had a few $$$ to invest in some more gear for the Deus, namely the large 13x11" coil, lower shaft and associated hardware. There was no stock in Oz, so I purchased from France and only took an amazing 7 days to get here.

The intention is to use this coil on open ground on some of the older coin/relic sites, just to speed up the gridding process, not really looking for any extra depth. Will be interesting to see how it performs compared to the 11", and how the extra weight affects the balance. Either way, it only weighs about 100grams more than the 11" coil, so is still pretty light when compared to similarly sized coils on other detectors.

All I need now is another upper shaft assembly, and I have two XP Deus detectors.

Thanks Rod, it only took a few minutes to enter the coil serial number into "coils" in the options menu, and instantly it is connected and ready to go. After fitting it to the Deus, it still feels extremely lightweight and honestly doesn't feel much heavier than the 11" coil. Also nice to see that two sets of coil bolts/washers are included in the package.

Just looks like a stretched version of the 11" coil, hopefully I can get out tomorrow to give it a run, and might plant a couple of coins to see if depth response is much different to the 11".

When you want to swap coils around, all you have to do is wack the second lower shaft in, go into option/coils, and select which ever saved coil you want to use, and off you go - all takes about 30 seconds.

Nice one GP, best of luck with that beast of a coil. Been thinking about getting 17in coil for the CTX for the same reason, faster gridding of large areas.
