Bit of a mixed bag tonight, even managed to find some good luck (see pic), ;) Yet another shilling (1956), followed by 1952, 1951, 2 x 1941 pennies, and one 1942 hp. A couple of oddities were a ST George religious medallion, Macau 1967 5 Avos, and the good ol Leyland car badge. The rest of the time was spent mopping up the plentiful BB's, at least it was good practice. :)

Well GP that was a productive and interesting hunt for you,... the Shilling would clean up in about 20 seconds with CLR(and a small flat art brush) and still retain its patina really well by the looks of it. ;) :)

Had a better night on the pre-decs, though would have been a lot better if the rain hadn't cut things short. :(

Hit the turf using a different program for a change, and one I am really warming to which is a "Full tones" program I borrowed off a UK Deus user. This program allows for some really good depth, which resulted in some deeper targets being left in the ground due to the crappy sticky black clay, and some being obscured by large tree roots, pretty much non-retrievable without making a hell of a hole.

For the copper coins I ended up with a 1897 & 1947 hp, 1900, 1919, 1943, & 1948 pennies. The silvers included a 1946 Florin, 1952 Ramshead shilling, and a 1927 3p.

Also picked up a 1954-55 AWU badge, and quite an old looking enamel filled part of a buckle/broach? marked with a ship, crown, club, and dice. :)

Best of all I dug very little junk, and am finding the coins quite easy to pick out using this particular program. The coins really stand out with quite a smooth/mellow tone vs the sharper tone from irregular shaped junk. Barely used the control box screen tonight, ended up sticking it in my pocket and just digging via tones, though it did feel a bit strange just swinging the coil mounted to the shaft, and nothing else. :)

It was the just swinging the stick and wearing the headphones that stood out to me in the adds in GG&T GP,.... great looking hunt,... exciting stuff. :D

Gday GP , the great finds just keep coming
Have the last couple of hunts been on new ground, or is it somewhere youve been before?
I find it amazing that you could have missed that amount of stuff ...
even if you were tone deaf and using a wooden stick

Yes, all the previous hunts were areas I've visited before, though you do have to take into account that these are quite large open areas, not parks delineated by boundaries, so unless you mark your gridding with a gps, you will never cover 100% of the ground.

My first detect in a new area is usually an exploratory one to seek out spots that produce. In one such area about 500m long, I found a majority of pre-decs only occurred within a very small area, say 20x20m. Targets were few and far between outside of that area, with quite a few hours of gridding completed with only the odd penny/hp to show for my efforts. So not exactly cream areas, and you have to put in the hard yards to cover a lot of ground to come up with the good finds. Last night's detect was such a case, whilst some nice coins were found, a lot of ground was covered to come up just 11 coins. ;)

Thanks Johns, this detect was in an older area than the previous, have already pulled a few 1800's coins from here several weeks ago. I tend to rotate my locations, depending on timing, how far I want to drive, weather and various other factors. Yes I did "tweak" my settings, though as with gold detecting, if you don't walk over it, you won't find it. :)

Well what ever you are doing it's working really good and between you and Robert we have seen more old coins this last couple of weeks than we have all year,

Congrats GP, glad to see the new machines is living up to its REP in your hands,

Went on a club outing today with quite a large group of members, including missus Goldpick and her trusty Teknetics G2. Turns out she pipped me and most others for the coin of the day, detecting an 1877 Gothic Florin in the middle of an open paddock. Not long before, I had detected an 1877 Brit penny, and Sheryl (PA member), picked up a very nice 1860's shilling. I went back to re-detect missus goldpick's florin location, though nothing else turned up - talk about luck walking over that sole coin.

Moving on to the second location where some houses used to stand, a few pre-decimal coin spills were found by other members, and I also managed to sniff out a 1994 penny and 1951, 1921, & 1919 hp's. A few vintage toy cars were found amongst the members, including myself with a Corgi Oldsmobile Super 88, and a mid 60's Husky S&D refuse van.

At long last I manage to dig up a completely intact toy pistol, the ever popular Texan Junior! Other oddities include the remains of an ACME Thunderer Aussie Rules whistle, a couple of buttons, part of a wind up key for a child's toy (Lines Brothers Ltd, London), and a ton of lead in various forms.

All up, a very enjoyable day with fantastic weather for a detect. :)

I told the missus to make out that I had actually found it (jokingly), though she wouldn't have a bar of it. :D Good on her, she deserved it.

Ohh hoh' hoh',.... what a sweet date you guys went on,... gothic florin beauty, and a perfect pistol to boot. :D ;)
