A good solid detector to start out on, have fun with it. Don't be too disheartened digging a fair bit of junk to start with, we all went through the same process at one stage ( and still dig junk, just a bit less).

The detector isnt, the coil maybe, you need to check on the minelab site, or in the owners manual.

Yeah I'm just attempting it now!
One thing I like is the lack of graphic for coin etc..a lot of detectors I looked at had it and I figure that's for us cash,not ours...so I'll be selecting from a number which will show metals as they are not what some American symbol tells me

If it isn't can I use it on damp grass or in a light shower?

The concentric spider coil on the 305 is waterproof, so go for it!
