I think there is a huge difference between taking someone to a spot you have found a couple of grams from too a patch that has ounces on it. Greed can make good people do stupid things. A patch back in the late 90's for example where I dug about 5 ounces out before lunch, returned with him after lunch and spent the next day and a half digging quite a few more ounces out. Now I took this person into this area after lots of foot work and hours of time and returned to the spot only to find him there with another group a week later and all he could say is ' that's life my friend'. You just have to be carefull sharing any info about gold locations especially online, as that really hurt to have someone do that to me when I thought he would never do something like that, but add $$$$$$$$ and anyone is capable of anything.

GW, I can see your point - that experience would be hard to take!
The only patches I've ever found had no more than 5 sub-grammers, so I didn't mind sharing and I'm clearly not in your league.

That you were aware of!
Different machine/coil/settings/experienced operator may get ounces from the same ground.

I mentioned to a long time member here an area to have a look when he purchased an SDC, I was really hoping he'd get his first detected nugget. Then I mentioned in a thread that I'd PM'd him the details of a spot and another member decided I was the worst jerk in the world for sharing a tidbit of info, info that's freely available in the NSW gold atlas anyway.

So even helping someone can draw critisism for doing the right thing and helping an honest newbie try to get a nug.

100% agree with you Redfin. So if my 4500 turns up nothing else after changing settings/coils/beer temps etc, the site is better suited to the more sober SDC or GPZ mob who may clean up. I like my 4500 and beer and will stay with them. I've always a long list of other places that I want to try as I like seeing new ground/history. It's a great sleuthing hobby for me, and I don't at all mind giving newbs a leg up - so long as I haven't got the "wobbly boot" on. If I have, I don't go near shafts ;)

Heatho. Good onya mate. I'm a forever optimist, who believes members of sites like these are here to share and help. Good company and the hunt are more valuable than the find.

As an absolute newbie, reading, youtube, info day (miners den), then repeating those processes again is hard...reading as many threads here as possible trying to make sure I am doing everything right...but at the end of the day, it is where you find it, but it seems the little golden buggers like to hang out together- and finding that spot or spots is hard.

Heck, my first swing I got rubbish, however, my daughter went for a swing around the playground and score over $6 and a charm bracelet..she scored better than I did and she had the go 20 lol...

I can't wait to get out for a few more goes, get the little training session done, then hopefully see if there are any little groups hitting the ground somewhere in the GC I could tag along with...hard as a newbie to get with the in crowd to start with, so little to share, so much to learn.

Why would anyone tell really,... some big company trolling the site could end up blanketing the ground in some great exploration lease and take it all in one big greedy grab with a dragline and 50 billion dollars worth of resources behind them,... heck,... they could even build there own railroad and bring in employee's from their own country,... buy orher land and grow food here to feed their own employees, ... heck they could build their own town and airport and do fifo from their own country landing behind locked gates and we'd be none the wiser,... but hang on,... that's what your representitive government that was more than likely nearly all born overseas somewhere and educated in the private schooling system of this or some other contry is letting happen to the country we were all more than likely born in and raised on. W T F. 8) 8) 8)
Did you wake up on the wrong side of the bed this morning silver???
Somedays I'm happy enough just to wake up SCROUNGER (ha). :D

speaking as what I consider to be a good friend of big wave, can I say he is a very generous man who does due diligence when looking for prospective detecting areas.
I have been on both ends of the stick, prospectors only too happy to share, and the proverbial " I found it over that way" detectorists.
It is refreshing to find a detectorist willing to share his knowledge and areas that h'es had success, don't take that for granted.
I am going to endeavour to meet up with big wave this weekend and all those thinking about it,would be great to see you there.
Btw I have been detecting about the same time as bigwave with moderate success.Thinking of changing my name to .2 of a grammer as that seems to be my favorite number when finding gold of late

Thanks for that endorsement MM. It was great catching up with you in the GT over last year. May you soon change your name to BigGram. I liked your recent 6g gold in ironstone find!
