There's plenty of posts of alluvial gold and coin/artefact sites, but very few of nugget sites. My daughter accuses me of disclosing to others where we have detected gold. Why is this? There's plenty to go round!

I don't know perhaps she dreams of detecting for a living. I don't think too many people who rely on gold to make ends meet share locations. As a hobbyist though I don't see why not. I disclose where i find my nuggets but I guess if I found a mother lode I'd probably clean it out first and then share it.

I liken it a bit to fishing, never seek spots from a guy trying to make a living, if they offer fair enough.
As a very inexperienced gold detectorist, I do not ask anything other than info on technique, or general information. In saying that I have been very grateful indeed for advice that has been offered but I never abuse it and what very little I have found, I have given feedback to those assisting me.

Honestly, no one would really tell anyone else where to find nuggets, ... maybe what type of ground to look for, or common known areas that are frequented by many (maybe),... but not ever a here you go get on and rip em out,.. unless you were besties or wearin each others jocks (thats too close for comfort really ). :D

I don't see too many giving away their specific alluvial, coin/artifact, gem or nugget spots on here or elsewhere & don't expect to either.
There's lots of info on general areas to check out including nugget areas? I think when starting out we all have probably been guilty of asking for or wanting a specific spot to get a find. Truth is most spots that are given out may have given up good finds previously but usually now just throw up the odd bit here & there. If they were still productive spots most would keep it under their hat or just share with a few mates not advertise it on the interweb.
Doug Stone & John Tully share enough nugget area's already

When I see someone's finds be gold or gems I like to ask where came from not the spot but which state or territory towns close by as I am happy to tell where my finds come from

I've passed on info to people before members and non members, taken some lads out to spots detecting and alluvial, posting locations on a public forum for skulkers or trolls does not seem in the best interest to myself or others I've passed info onto, in one particular incident a while ago just my location on my avatar (now changed) and some mining/prospecting gear laying around the joint was enough to lead one person to work out where I dig, this ended causing problems for myself as the areas I dig are private property, the open holes left in the middle of my mates wheat crop and the incident that arose from catching the guy red handed were enough to leave serious doubts in my mates mind about letting prospectors on his joint, thankfully I convinced him this was a 'one off' and I'd ensure I wouldn't let it happen again, as for the public areas I've shared, well it's just go knock yourself out, better off a mate finding colour than just leaving it there for a "I'll get out there one day and dig it".
Share at your own risk I guess, I don't mind helping people out where I can, but to those that just pipe up on their first few posts about where can I go dig or detect gold I usually just bypass that topic and move on, took me 6-12 months of searching and researching before I started to work out where gold lay around my area, not including the countless hours of digging.
YOU want the returns, YOU put in the effort :)

I think there are too many greedy lazy people around mate, not all but some, there is always someone waiting for a free handout, I've been accused of being greedy by not sharing locations, but I'm not the sort of guy that willy nilly accepts individuals getting a free ride off the sweat of someone else's brow, I see enough of it at work let alone dealing with it in recreation :)
Trusted friends new or old no worries ;)

Back in the '80's when he was living on the smell of an oily rag in the Dunolly Caravan Park, if he needed cash for petrol for his old panel van, John would sometimes take newbies out for detecting lessons. John being John, he'd take them to his most recent patch  and it wasn't uncommon for them to come back to town with nuggets in their pockets!

I would never tell anyone where I was getting or have found gold in the past.

I have never asked anyone and have done my own research and just got out there.

But if people want to share locations, then good luck to them.

If you're in auriferous country, then you're in with a chance.

Been there done that
Helped quite a few here via PM a few in person from a CLUB & have been hung drawn & quartered for my efforts my help is always given without ever expecting any return, so I have never been disappointed in that regard, there are grubs everywhere, they can get stuffed!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have 2 select mates in this game & no-one but them will benefit from my efforts in research which is HUGE.

I will continue to give general advice like we all should, however I will not allow myself to be disappointed in others actions & neither should others, there are far to many people who can't be bothered to do the research required to make consistent finds for themselves.

cheers
Lee
