Ha ha ha, some mongrel probably found it in central Oz and put the scent off by telling everyone it was found in the triangle.

if i was the finder i would send everyone to the wrong side of the country,,,, i reckon it was found near port headland marble bar same sort of ground and its almost diagonally opposite vic gold fields

The nugget was found in Victoria's Golden Triangle on Friday. The area encompasses the historic gold mining towns Ballarat and Bendigo and stretches west to Stawell which is about 240km from Melbourne.

Likely the little nugget was caught in the tread of a vehicle driving off-road somewhere in the area. But the same point applies as it had to be on the surface to get transported by that vehicle. Else it was in the road mix wherever it came from.

They use the gravel layer found in the region in road base etc. I often drive past that bloke, always out the front in Tarnagulla, always give you a wave.

From the look of the dirt that was covering it it looks more like the whipstick forest. Ground texture that was discribed was, like concrete, again like that area. Ken.

There's a small road base quarry local to me that is right next to where a lead ran. It was noted for nuggetty gold. Wouldn't surprise me at all to find a bit on the road near there.

Just realised the nugget was found in the golden triangle, Whipstick is well outside the triangle. Ken.

ken2m. Whipstick is in the Bendigo area, so is definitely part of the Vic GT. Give it up guys, and find your own spots. There's gold out there for all of us - not just the yellow colour, but the bush, scenery and friendships.

I heard it was an old member from here that has a crew working the Tarnagulla/Laanecoorie area!

Is onto a huge patch that yielded a couple of ounce plus nuggs only days before the big find.

But i could be wrong!

Wherever it was found it's not there anymore, not like finding a good fishing spot, gold doesn't spawn or regenerate, once it's gone its gone forever!
