Yes it sure is a long way to go and I guess the roads are not up to the standard we have here? We're travelling about 1000km to the goldfields on this trip but most roads are 110 kph.

Hi mate,

I did not make this trip. I panning for gold here in my state. The Amazon is very dangerous. Best state to find gold is in Bahia or Gias.

I was wondering that Joao, thanks for sharing. I have seen a lot documentaries on the Amazon and thought it would be very dangerous and quite lawless also. In other countries the gemstone and gold areas are guarded by people with machine guns...... Over here it's not so dangerous but still you need to be careful of snakes and old mine shafts.

Glad there is plenty of gold in your home state. One documentary I saw showed miners using a lot of mercury in the Amazon and they said it's becoming quite polluted which is a shame.

I had asked him all about where he was digging and if he was part of the illegal amazon mining just out of concern.

He doesnt travel to the Amazon, just showing how far he lives away from it.

Luckily he lives happy with his family on the east side of brazil with no conflict. I hope it is far away from any mercury poisoning.

:)

There's gold in the ground in my backyard.... I feel for ya mate!

I've got a couple of levels in mine - and if I look at the walls it's decomposed granite with a conglomerate above it (and I live on top of a hill?) .... I've thought about it a few times lol
