Yeah i struggle with the geographical technical stuff, frustrates the bejeezus out of me as having access to basically unlimited ground, I know it's the key to a lot more profitable walking and digging. Would be much less daunting when standing on a hill with the country sprawling out below, to at least have a good starting point. :awful:
So to those that know, a big thanks for helping educate the uneducated :Y:

. Unfortunately if you have no interest in geology you are demonstrating little interest in finding gold or any other cool stuff that comes from the earth. The two go hand in hand. Sure, some of it is complicated and needs a university education, but I promise you you won't catch me or Goldierocks "speaking down" to you about it. There's a lot I don't know either... and if I can help out with what I DO know, well, I'd be proud to have helped.
100%. For me the hunt and the education about why gold is where it is and where gold is likely to be, is as exciting as finding it :)
Generally gold is not "where you find it", gold is where gold is due to complex geological processes....Understanding some of those processes gives you a head start.
Its similar to fishing, Yeah you could just chuck a line in anywhere at anytime, but smart fishers look at tides, feeding times, moon cycles....

WTF! The Geo's on here post the best info on the whole forum.

Just keep doing your thing fellas, 10/10.
100% Heatho. Couldn't count the number of times have struggled to get my head around the "techo" stuff, then out swinging one comes across something and the light bulb turns on and it relates and all starts to come together.
I guess to sum it up, how much info would have been lost to all members if this string had been deleted due to it's boring content ???

Here's a pipeclay nugget I found a few years back. I took It to a gold nugget buyer who tested It on one of those XRF? machines, and said It was 98-99% gold. I wanted 20% over spot for It, but he didn't want to pay that much, so I kept it. It was covered In pipeclay when I found it. It had no impurities in it whatsoever. I just washed it, and that's how It cleaned up. I reckon It must have been a throwout, as It was In the pipeclay, not in the wash where It should have been. wiley.

Amen. My faith is restored. Sometimes theres some Unilateral decision making going on, and thats no slight against the entirety of you guys.

That said while the boundaries keep getting pushed back further and further and posts indiscriminately deleted in this manner I have decided not to post anything further related to prospecting. Soley as I have no control over what remains and what is modded and deleted.

Sadly I have no other avenue to address the issue but as the cat is (once again) out of the bag it seems the most appropriate place.

Surely others feel and have felt the same way.

Sorry to be off topic hopefully the forum returns to some sensible middle ground, as it stands I cant support it in content or time, nor can I ignore the issue and stay silent.

I'm feelin ya GT, and so once again knowledge lost to others due to what can only be described as un explainable irrational behaviour. As blatantly obvious as it is, yet no stop is put to it? It may need to be remembered that those same people that stop posting or leave in some situations, could well hold the keys to many gates that they then choose to keep locked ? Ya just never know who the member Dodgy Digger Dave is  ;)
I was here years ago and took a walk, decided to return but same person and still same issue sadly. Good luck with it :Y:
Now on topic, had a very interesting conversation with a guy that found a 4.5Kg nugget today. Yes that is kg not ounces. One has to dream

Gidday everyone I have a question for anyone to answer. Why when i detect pipe clay you get a strong signal from rather large lump of clay [ slate looking ] then break it down to find source of signal, the signal totally disappears am i doing something wrong would appreciate a response

That happens because the pipeclay itself is unmineralised, so any mineralised material that's buried in pipeclay, will stand out as a signal.

thanks redfin i understand ground noise but when lump is waved across my machine which is gm1000 it shows gold but when i crumble it down all noise is gone. thanks grubstake makes sense

I've got an equinox 800 and get a similar strong signal from a certain type of black slate around here. Shows up as small gold every time.

fish aren't too smart, take sardines, they lock themselves inside a tin, and leave the key on the outside, how smart is that?, he he
