Anyone have information where to get hold of an evo 19 open coil in Australia?
New or used...
Can only seem to find the solid closed coils.
Couple open ones overseas.
Any help would be appreciated

In saying that, I have an open 19", only because I inherited it. If I was buying one I would buy a closed design. I really dislike spoked design coils purely for the 'getting hung up on stuff' issue.

Yes the spoked are lighter but at that size we are all using a bungy anyway so minimal difference I think 👍

Would a 19” solid evo skid plate fit on a 19” open evo? That would give you a lighter option than a solid while preserving some of the lighter weight benefits of the open.
Used to do that with a NF 17 x 11 advantage elliptical. Used sealant around the inside to prevent water and dust entry that way because I was happy to use it permanently that way. Or maybe temporary tape around the outside if wanting to switch between open and closed modes.
Just a thought.

I have one that is rarely used. I bought it for a particular gully that I'd previously pulled a few decent ones out of but it didn't find any more. It's the only bit of my prospecting equipment that has never paid for its self. It still has the original skid plate in good condition and I have a new spare. PM me if you're interested in doing a deal. Phil

It does, it fits perfectly. That is what I have and stuff falls within the spokes and then gets under the spokes between the skid plate. I think I understand your idea of sealing the gaps. Are you thinking silicone or no-more-gaps or something like that? Actually, the brother-in-law has some black shoe repair stuff which sticks well but is a bit flexible and probably easy enough to remove when the skid plate needs replacing. I might give that a try, thanks for the suggestion ;)

I've got a 12" and a 15" solid Evo though and love them for both their metal detecting attributes but also their 'everything just slides' off attributes.

Sorry Moneybox if I'm not helping your sale 👍

Yes exactly the idea. I used a neutral silicone around the top inside gaps and it made a long lasting seal as there is no abrasion there. Can't say whether there would be any difficulty removing the silicone stuck skid plate as I never got around to taking it off before I sold it with my previous 5000.
I have since bought another 5000 and sourced another open elliptical for patch hunting to which I again fitted a solid skid plate but never bothered to seal it as I have never used it in wet conditions. When finished using it, I just turn it upside down, give the plate a tap and blow out any dust or debris from time to time.
This has just reminded me though that it's probably about time to fully remove the skid plate and give it a thorough clean before refitting it.

I think this sounds like the best option...
Open coil. Solid skid plate. Best of both worlds
Might also do this with the 15 and 17x13
@Moneybox sent a pm.
Just been given access to prospect at my works gold lease just out of Kalgoorlie.
Heaps of shafts, mullock heaps and qualified geologists to chat with.
Bushchook will be going for a scratch out there with the bulk flies and I presume bulk hot rocks.
Don't think they would let me off the active mining area with the dozer for a bit of a blade here n there.
All the best work is always done on nightshift haha 😉
