VEGE PATCH. What's growing in yours?

Great advice on composting silver. We have a huge, double block of land with lots of trees etc. So plenty of leaves and cuttings that go through the mulcher and into the compost heaps. I have 3 heaps on the go. One for fresh clippings, one that is brewing away and one ready to add to the garden.

Elsewhere in the garden... We have had the last of our mangoes. We had 35 - 40 mangoes this year which was the best by far for our young tree. Still have plenty of bananas. These banana trees were here when we bought the house and took me several years to learn how to get them to fruit etc.

Picked the first few mandarins today and both Mandarin and orange trees are loaded with fruit. We also have an Australian native lime or finger lime. It was 4 years old when we planted it and would be about 8 years old now. It takes 7 to 14 years to produce fruit so we are hoping that any season now it will produce.

I also planted a heap more seeds in the new greenhouse. Looking forward to some fresh veges.

You have to much time on your hands Perce.

The app is Gardenate. Only just started using it myself. Hopefully keep better records of the garden progress.

RJ, get someone else to come around with a rolled up newspaper in spring to flog up your finger lime tree a bit... not enough to do it too much damage... just enough though to give it stress and make it feel unsafe enough to have a need to set seed to save the species. then you will get your fruit sooner :Y:

Thanks silver. I guess it does have a pretty easy life here... Great soil, reasonable rainfall... As an Aussie native it is probably needing some stress to trigger it's need to breed...

Well it's been about 2 weeks since I made the greenhouse. Just about every day has been overcast or raining and still the plants in there are twice the size of those in the garden. Must be working. On an overcast day like today it is 2 - 3 degrees warmer in the greenhouse than it is outside. Plus I guess the plants in the garden are a bit over watered at the moment.

I saw a couple of episodes of River Cottage Australia on TV and got inspired so I bought the DVD set with 4 seasons. I will be happy to pass it onto anyone interested after I watch it as long as you do likewise. First in gets it!

I've only got a few broccoli and Cauli's growing at the moment. Picked this lot of caps 2 weekends ago. Still goy a few chillies on the plants but I picked and dried more than enough for my needs this season.

And the Strawberries are gunna be great this year

A neighbor gave me some Red Onion seedlings he had surplus :Y:

And my Shallots are looking for garlic bread (I'm sure)

and when the weeds do grow.... well they're just beautiful

Rice planting was finished on this 2 hectors last week. Still have another 2 hectors to plant in a few weeks time.

The garden was originally set up to have a chook tractor move over each bed, but we never got around to getting the chooks, very casual gardeners indeed.

Frozen birdbath this morning, doesn't help growing stuff.

The last time I saw frost was in Stanthorpe about 11 yrs ago on our way home from the big lap of Oz. I remember seeing the towels and sheets frozen solid on the clothes line when we lived in Noble Park in my early teens. BRRrrrrrrrr!!!!
