Hi just wondering if you can use a petrol driven water pump for a high bank sluice or do you have to use a battery one.

Thanks Alex

If you are just starting out...
Buy a petrol driven water pump.
3 Reasons,
1. It will be hard to work out water flow. ie; Have I got enough water going through my sluice/Banker. ?
2. Unless you are built like Arnie Swartzenegger too carry your batteries around
3. Then having to cart a 2000Kva generator that you would have to run all night pissing off every one who at last are trying to get some sleep.
.
Just go get a small new petrol pump. At least it is silenced to the latest, greatest noise standards.
.
:D

Most people will use petrol pumps. The batteries are way to heavy to cart around. You can use petrol pump if that what is what were you concerned about. I does not matter whether you use electric or petrol driven pump.

I would only recommend battery in unique situations where water supply is an issue

I have had success with a battery powered pump set up connected to my dual battery in the 4wd and a 30m+ cord down to the spot I was banking, using a "mini" high-banker, and recirculating the water scooped from a puddle in a "non river area"..... a petrol pump would have been too powerful and eaten that water up in 10 seconds.

Almost all circumstances Petrol wins, as GD indicates battery is used for stealth or unique situations such as recirculating due to lack of water supply. If you were nowhere near water and had to carry a supply to the area you are banking, then id say battery, otherwise petrol wins!!!
