I equate all of these high volume turnover methods for profit (in popular hobby prospecting areas) to what pro fishermen do by intensively fishing enclosed bays and estuaries. The money that is generated directly back into communities from recreational anglers, or mum and dad prospectors generally far outweighs that which is ever gained by allowing a few 'pros' to come into a non-remote area and profiting (potentially) quickly with little going directly back into the local communities.
Just think about how much each one of us 'hobby' prospectors spend on our detectors, fuel, accommodation, food, vehicles etc etc and how much gold or gems we actually take home each visit, it's not much in the overall scheme i'd reckon. Now compare that with a team of 'pros' that move in and strip an area that effectively wipes it off the map for us hobbyists regards finding much future gold.

Hey bazz yes i have participated in dredging back in the 80's. We dredged an area called picnic point on the big river, it was the best experience of my prospecting life there is nothing wrong with expressing one's interest, and i must say it was the gold rush relived in these modern times it wasn't uncommin for a 10 - 15 pennyweight cleanout for the day with a 4 inch dredge. If your getting a headache feel free to ignore my posts and others regarding. And to everyone else seeing those specks under water with the sun shining. Lamb on a red gum fire reliving the gold rush once more.
