Just returned from by first metal detecting outing to Talgai with my X-Terra 705. Unfortunately no gold to speak of, plenty of nails, bolts and pieces of iron though!
Not fussed, more of a rece and test run for the 705. Pleased that I was digging up real targets.

Hoping that I was in the right area to as there were signs on others, but these signs were unfilled holes and rubbish.

Also some signs of someone digging through a creek bed. Hope these guys were onto something and not a pure novice like myself! Did a bit of crevice work and bought a bucket home for my son to try some panning in, hopefully there may be a spec or two there!

All in all a good day tromping through the bush!

Hi Rapson,

Need to be careful around that area the rangers have hidden cameras out there which they do monitor to catch people in the wrong areas, one fellow had his 4WD taken off him and all his equipment.

The details for the designated fossicking areas are at:

http://www.qld.gov.au/recreation/activities/fossicking/south-east/

The maps on that site have the GPS co-ords for them. They are all marked with Qld. Dept. of Mines signs when you get out there.

Glendons a private property near there is also only $22 for the day and a great spot to metal detect. They have full camping facilities if you want also for a small fee.

Plenty of gold won from Glendons. Best bet is to hook up with Bruce Bertram at Glendons who can show you where to go and can take you to the fossicking areas he has all the local knowledge of what the old timers were up to in the area.

Cheers,

Grant

Thanks Gcause, yeah well aware of the boundaries, got them in my GPS. Found a few of the old diggings and had a look at a couple of the old mines that are out of the fossicking area to.

Next step is to spend a couple of days out there and camp at Glendons. Will give Bruce a call to. Need all the help I can get!!

On the bright side we panned through the bucket I brought home and we found a couple of flakes of gold! Just happy to find some colour, the collection has started!
