Didn't want to put this under epic trips cos it probably won't be. It's just a trip away from the dark state.
Mrs Wishfull wants an sdc same as mine. Ok thats all good if she can find the money. Then it sounds like a trip to either Maryborough or Wedderburn in March or April. I liked both towns when I was there last year. Thing is, we sold our little van last year so we would be looking at hiring a cabin in either town for about 5 days or so. Question is, can anyone suggest a reasonable place to stay that's not too pricey. Just a decent bed, shower amenities etc.

Can't help with accommodation in either place but it might be worth looking into Air B&B's I've heard some are quite reasonable when it comes to price.

Hey Wishfull. Two that I occasionally stay at in Maryborough are the Wattle Grove Motel and the Golden Country Motel.
I also like the cabins at Laanecoorie Lakeside Caravan Park. All are reasonably priced and have power 24/7 (at least until Hazlewood shuts down late March).
There is also the Wedderburn Jamboree coming up over the Vic Labour Day long weekend (11/12 March), so quite a few from PA may be out that way.

Hi wishful ,
Not sure about Wedderburn , particularly if you clash with their jamboree , most probably already booked out .
When Jenny and I moved over from SA to house hunt , we stayed for over a month in Maryborough .
Maryborough Caravan Park . Contact # 03 54604848 . I think cabin was about $85.00 from memory , there is a choice basic and premium .
The park has a lake you can walk around , picnic bbq etc .
The cooking area is the cleanest and best Iv'e ever seen , bbq's and tables under cover plus a huge indoor dining area with stove , microwave etc .
Check it out on the web .

Cheers
goldrat

ps. still haven't forgotten about gold south of Yorktown , will eventually be able to give you some vague directions , but unfortunately no names to contact .

Hi wishfull, We always stay at the Golden Country , in Maryborough, nice park , not sure about the prices of cabins.
There was a butcher in Warooka who got gold from the crops of turkeys he killed ,, many years ago

I like staying at the Inglewood Motel and Caravan Park. I switch between Motel and camping subject to time of year and finances available. Great owners, Pauline & Jerry, who will really look after you. Nice rooms and good rates.
Wedderburn is only 20 min (30klms) up the road.
Happy travels.

So Big Wave,
You might share my concern over the proposed Hazellwood closure as announced by the government.

We will loose our reliable power supply that supports our homes and Industries and end up paying a whole stack more for power that will be far less reliable.
I work in the electrical industry and are very well qualified in the workings and demands of the states grid.

I will warn you prepare for very rapid price rises in Gas / Electricity prices.
I personally believe the so called Global Warming / Climate change is a load of B.S.

The Electricity companys already screwed us over with their 50% increase in Service Charges since 2012.

Thats to make bills cheaper for families, been single myself i pay a very high price for electricity as a single i subsidise families!
Socialism policy of corrupt political system.

It"s Not cheaper for families, flat rate for everyone and you cannot cut back on your meter useage, 365 days a year at $1.32 per day + GST. They don"t need to sell Kw of power . Totally screwed unless you go Off - Grid.
