Imo, I think it is too modern for the chest. I would go leather. But thats just me. Mackka

Either floral fabric or leather would best suit the period imo. Nucopia don't dismiss taking a few of your pictures to a local antique dealer and ask them, ya never know it might end up pink

As Mackka said, a nice burgundy / deep brown leather or leather look vinyl if you want to keep the cost down would look nice. I’d even be tempted to make the top panel larger to within 1/2 of the edge. If your top panels not fixed, shift it across and see if you think it looks better.

As i said to Mackka , Im just trying this out to see how it all goes together.
Appreciate your feed back and suggestions. Im also partial to the idea of leather or vinyl, just havent had the time source any leather/vinyl yet.

Go for the colour that gold looks it’s best on. I like green for that.

I made another set of blacksmith tongs for holding the 6mm rod in the forge while making the stems for the roses.

Thought l would try a new look for the chest
Dark brown vinyl… just made a mock up to see how the vinyl blends with the natural colours of the wood..
thoughts ?

I like that, I would mock up your panel to within 1/2“ of the edge and see if you prefer a larger top panel.

I bought another piece of ply wood to cut down to the size as you have suggested.
When the next door neighbour gets home I’ll ask him to cut it on his table saw..
