Hi Folks,

Before going out for a detect yesterday, I thought Id try to fix the problem that all
SDC users have with the folding arm rests. About six months ago I bought a neoprene cover in the hope that it would keep the arms open but it only partly worked. It is so frustrating when you are wearing long sleeves and always have trouble getting your arm into place. I have seen 100mm PVC pipe effectively used in a number of ways to replace or Velcro on to the existing arms but as I was in a hurry, I wanted something that would solve the problem quickly. What I came up with was a PVC insert that simply slipped under the Velcro. About two minutes later, this is what I constructed. (A drop saw, bandsaw and disc sander makes the job quite easy)

The PVC was 100mm long and 140mm long around the external curve. The strap was loosened, the neoprene cover lifted and the insert positioned.

The neoprene cover was then stretched over both the insert and the arms with the strap retightened.

Went out with Bigrob for a swing and was surprised as to how well it worked. Nothing moved at all. The original arms were not modified in any way which means that the SDC could still be folded up if required. If I wasnt in such a rush, a complex and time consuming solution would have been invented which may not have worked any where near as well (lol) The only complaint from Bigrob was that I never made an insert for his machine.

Well, I obviously didnt make it, but took advantage of the wet weather yesterday and re-furnished a lapidary machine I purchased a while ago.

Had some black paint lying around for the job, next time I think I will need to lash out on some swarf coloured paint. layful:

Well seeing I left my sluice in Newman for my young bloke to use I thought I would knock up another one smashed it out pretty quick just needs some fiddling to Finnish it I think it will work ok cheers Muk.

Gday all well finished fiddling with my sluice I used a old crutch I had for height adjustment it can be used on the ground or on the angle iron I put on the mobile tub I had sluice is attached to the tub with a hinge I bought a xu1 900w submersible grey water pump from Bunnings the build altogether cost me $120 bucks I had a lot of it laying around at home Ive had it running and been dropping shot gun pellets in it and they have been caught between the top 2riffles so hopefully it should work well I will keep you posted cheers Muk.
