Goody :D

With Honours' recent arrival, a toy box was ordered by my daughter.. 4 hours later and approx $45 of materials and one toy box is completed.
Now to put three coats of Estapol polyurethane gloss on over the next week, so another $15 to $20 bucks of Estapol so for $65 plus labor a nice new toy box is made and I've spent some quality time in the shed.

Hi Folks,

Just finished some beekeeping work and decided it was time to clean up some of the drips of wax that had covered the bench and floor of the workshop.

Melted the wax down and strained it but it was too dirty to use in the hives. Decided to use it to make some dubbin as my detecting boots were looking a little worse for wear.

After a bit of research, I decided on a recipe that used beeswax, lard and coconut oil to make the dubbin. I had some containers of stock in the fridge so the dripping on top was scrounged.

Mixed the ingredients together, melted and strained it and then poured the liquid into a container.

When the wax set, I gave the old boots a bit of a polish.

Now all of the neighbourhood dogs love me as I smell like roast beef.

Cheers

Les

They came up a treat Les! Well done! :)

But maybe don't go detecting where there are wild dogs for a while...

Cheers,
Megsy

When I renovated my current city house [1984] I used a piece of jarrah, 400 x 50, as a mantle piece.
After a fine sand I rubbed in natural bees wax which really highlighted the timber, grain and color.
Today it still looks like it did in 1985, no further coats added.
It has had countless cans, bottles, cups etc on it but just a wipe over sees it back to original.

The bungee cord on my GPX4500 has seen better days :/ One touch on the tyre of the quad at speed and it's instantly half length. I've managed to knot it a couple of times but knots in this stuff keep coming loose.
I don't like the heavy bungee cord supplied, it's too strong to stretch properly so you may as well be using a piece of rope :| I'm using 6mm bungee cord that works like a spring allowing a lot more freedom to move the detector while keeping it supported.

I like the bungee hooks supplied with the SDC but they tell me the only way to get one is to fork out $3,500 and you get a free SDC with it :( My old hook has broken as well and with the little bit missing off the end it's very difficult to fit to the harness.
The new hook that I found seems to be the way to go but we'll see how it performs in a few weeks time. It seems really nice and easy to clip on and adjust and has that nice little locking clip to stop it falling off when the going gets rough.

I've made the loop on the detector end large enough to fit over the control panel of the SDC2300 as well. That way I can make up a few spares and they'll fit wherever needed ;)

Well done. Is it big enough to fit an 1860's mother-in-law into.

Might have lose a few limbs to stuff her in, pic makes it look larger, it's only about 30" long in the old money.

Curved top was fun, should have used thinner ply but I got away with it.

Next project is a nice carvers mallet to be turned out of Aussie oak.
