Tibooburra Gold.....a beginners "El Dorado."

A real nice piece on Tibooburra Wally. There is something special about Tibooburra…I do feel the real “nuggets” are the locals and visitors you tend to bump into, and chat with. Time just seems to float by. The country always gives one a sense of perspective of what’s really important. Having traveled with you on several occasions to Tibooburra, it’s always an experience to remember and to boot, a little bit of the yellow stuff to make our jars rattle.

You're not wrong Franko, and the place has always been more than the gold. It's the time "off" the gold around the campfire and the exploring of the never ending fields that brings one down to earth. Looking forward to the next trip out that way already....cheers Wal.

The first servo and the one in the middle of town on the right have the permit and map for Mt Stuart.

The first pub on the right has the permit and map for Gumvale Station.

Amazing. Whenever I see pics from Tibooburra they always seem to be piles of small gold. There's obviously a s*it load of it out there!

For every 100 bits you might get a piece around a gram. There is however some quite large nuggets out there on new patches that haven't seen detectors for a long time. To get the bigger bits you need to look outside the square, but they do still exist.

The patch we found in the video at the end of the thread had numerous nuggets over a gram in an area no bigger than half a football field.

Yes they do use baits around in the area the park and wildlife back on to every part of the the places were u can go metal detecting so u can bet your brass ones on it, it,s around, but check with them at the roadhouse they look after the common and the first station but missus were just talking we never seen signs out there

The common is a fee for 1 month. I think it's $10. Mt sturt and gumvale have a daily fee. $5 and $10 a day respectively last time I was there. Plus $5 a day if you want to camp. With the common you have to stay at one of the camp grounds or caravan park/motels. I've always done best on Mt sturt station but I hear the gold is bigger on gumvale.

Sorry to hear about the Covid Ozzie...Did you camp in isolation on the fields or stay in the crowded caravan park. We always camp away from the mob and on the last trip, {last winter} didn't see another soul for the fortnight we were up there. We tend to camp up in the ridge lines between fields completely out of view. Last winter the caravan park was packed and an expensive place to stay. Our camp fee was just 5 bucks a night so very economical for the length of time we spent. If ever you go back up there Ozzie send me a PM and I can maybe give you some additional info that may help with the amount of gold you take home.

Pay either at the first service station or at the first pub... depending on whether you're on Gumvale station or Mt Stuart. No in regards to dead horse gully...

Complete no go in the summer months unless you're in aircon accommodation and detecting at night only

Just back from a fantastic 10 days camping on Mt. Stuart station.
The gold is getting harder to find consistently, but who cares when you are kicking back with mates around the camp fire with a good red and waking up to magnificent sights like this.
