As I working in pathology. I took a small sample of pay dirt to work. To test for cyanide and Mercury.

1 sample. Very high level. cyanide. No gold in that pay dirt

So if your near old tailings. Don't place anything straight into mouth.

Specially lead.

After 30 years in Medical / Pathology and servicing some of the worst maintained machines in some lovely 3rd world places... lost count of needle stick events or pointing out the TB lab does not have correct air flow or neg pressure or that juce that sprayed all over me was not saline...

Let alone where my hands and fingers go all day long.... would need to find many many nuggets to ingest enough but over time and with the dirt under my fingernails ?

As I always said to the wife - Ya can not catch something that you already have ( That helps to dispel their fears = not)

But I can say with a passion that I fear those bloody Jumping ants and or Ticks. Hate Ticks the worse = Lyme disease (opps not in Australia = my ass)

Come on Mark, we are only doing what the experts on the "Weekend Prospector" told us to do. :lol: I think your advice is more warranted than theirs. :Y:

I normally put them in the palm of my hand and use a bit of water out of the camelback to clean them.

Good advice Ward69 :Y: it's amazing how many use the suck it and see principle. I was out with a seasnd prospector one day and every nugget was placed in the gob :8 not mine though.

If it looks like gold itll prolly taste like gold. So for me its straight in for a bit of a clean. I reason Ive got more things to worry about than a few undesirables on a nugget. Only issue Ive ever had with the suck it and see method is once I sneezed while nugget was in the mouth. Luckily it came out and the bonus was I got to find it again.

If it looks like gold itll prolly taste like gold. So for me its straight in for a bit of a clean. I reason Ive got more things to worry about than a few undesirables on a :goldnugget: nugget. Only issue Ive ever had with the suck it and see method is once I sneezed while nugget was in the mouth. Luckily it came out and the bonus was I got to find it again.

Not referring to gold but I've seen mates seiving sapphires is green water with roo and sheep oop: floating around in it and them put the sapphires in their gobs.... Then wonder why their guts are crook for the next month. :awful:

If its a surface find of dubious colour and texture it definitely wont be going in the gob. Never swallowed a nugget yet but Im sure some have. If its was under a gram it can go on its merry way, over well not so sure. Been a long time since I changed a nappy so not sure if I would cope with the search. :awful:
