Well!!!...all I can say is... I really am a man now!... :p ...Kipling eh...never did get into his work at all...my loss I think.
On another note...A brilliant piece from aussiefarmer!... :goldnugget: showcasing his intuitive talent and rich velvet style. While the monthly cup cannot be removed from silver...'the ballad of emotional text' will be added to the list for POEM OF THE YEAR! The full list of poems will be listed as the year draws to a close and voting will take place in mid-December to establish the winning piece(if that suits all). You may at that time vote for your own piece.
All this, is of course only applicable with the concurrence of the MODERATORS...who I kindly request might assist us in the collating of the votes and stuff...cause I ain't never done this stuff before... :/ :playful: Kind regards ter all o' yers!.REEFER.

Years ago l was a prolific writer of poems ditties and just plain nonsensical rhymes but over the last 20 years or so I've hardly written a thing.
Most things l wrote were thrown away.
One was presented to me framed by my work mates when l left PLeystowe mill in 1999 but I'd have to hunt it up.
A couple of short ones l can remember.
The first one deserves a few more verses if l ever get around tuit

*Nothing lasts forever*
-----------------------
Nothing lasts forever, l know it's sad to say
Because each and everyone of us will leave this place one day

And each of us may leave behind a stone with our name upon
But even that in time my friend, in time that will be gone.

Next

*Did you know I'm getting taller*
-----------------------------------
Did you know I'm getting taller?
Did you notice?
Do you care?

Did you know I'm getting taller?
Because I'm growing through my hair

GOOD STUFF Thomo!....It's sad you hadn't kept your works somewhere, but that's just life isn't it. We crash on through our life and come to a point where we regret a whole lot of things...and we're left with...'If only'. Not to worry, perhaps it's a chance for you to 'make amends' so to speak. We are all ears here!

Years ago, while travelling through northwest Tasmania I visited a place called 'The Edge of the World'. there, one is invited by a sign to throw a pebble into the sea. The idea is from a poem written way back by Brian Binder and goes as follows:

I cast my pebble into the shore of eternity
To be washed by the Ocean of time
It has shape form and substance. It is me.
One day I will be no more
But my pebble will remain here
On the shore of eternity, mute witness to the aeons
That today I came and stood at the Edge of the world.

I invite you to step to the fore Thomo. Be it a small pebble or a handful size... cast your stones in the form of words which come from your heart and soul and we will bear witness to them and they will live forever...here on the edge of cyber space... ;) where you are most welcome.

I love me Mum.

I went n seen me Mum
Couldn't hug her, Couldn't kiss her
But the love was everywhere.
She lives alone, a lonely life
Now made quiet by Corona
We had to keep our distances
For Mum gets help from others
N we don't know their hygienethics
So it's distance we must suffer
They used to say "The good die young"
But now "The good get through"
For Hygienethics and Distance
Is the newest dance we do
For we'll all live until we die
Cause livin's what we do.

It's so quiet on the retired front
where old pensioners live there
they stay home in their houses split
Conscious and aware
For now there are no trips about
No going here nor there
N if they get a visitor
They live life in their hands.
I surely wish we're all so careful
in everything we do
For we are all the loaded gun
And I for one
Well.....I love me Mum.

2020 The Year of Perfect Vision

We joked this year would be a year of 20/20 sight,
where everyone will see their lives in very clear light.
And sure enough, the year has come to show us all the way,
to look inside and see the chance to live another day.

Fires burned and brought the best of people who helped out,
and lent a hand to those in need, there never was a doubt.
Floods came next, to test the wills of them whod suffered then,
and people thought this was just cruel, first fires and now them!

But 2020 was not done to test the peoples sight,
Corona came and showed them all there was still more to fight.
Look around, look inside, what will their eyes see clear?
How will they act when lives at risk, start a major fear?

Greed and haste for hoarding food and paper for the loo,
others needs forgotten, or helping others too.
The old, the sick and veterans, they could all be damned,
the selfish acts of greed and hate, spewed forth, it was a sham.

There is no sight no clearer, when fighting for your life.
Now everyone is forced inside, to beat this blighted strife.
Keep away, move apart, dont touch me, dont you hear?
This virus spreads from you to me, so dont you get too near!

But who is out there helping, as they did the fires?
Who is holding out a hand to save the others lives?
Who is looking at their life, and seeing it clearly now?
Do they help their mates out, or say they dont know how?

While hoarding food and medicines, so others will miss out,
who need it just as much as them, that they dont care about.
They say that times of strife, always sort the people out,
into those who come to fore, and those who will cause doubt.

Who are you, my fellow beings, which one will you be?
Is it all about yourself, or others whore in need?
When this strife if over, how clearly will you see?
Were your actions noble, or only those of greed?

In the year of 2020, vision is something we all need,
to live through this hellish year, and somehow to succeed.
To come away with clearer sight of who we truly are.
Will you be alright with it, or shame you way too far?

I worked at Pleystowe mill ( now gone)just out of Mackay Queensland for nearly 20 years.
The toilet walls were full of scribble and stuff which l started to reply to and signed it the phantom.
I only told a mate many years later that it was me.
I had them amused for many years.

There was another guy Nutsy who was the local poet when l started there and he was very good and funny as hell.
Some of his were similar to my way of writing.
Using everyday incidents and people around the mill and spinning into a funny poem.

I can only remember bits and pieces of some.
One l wrote was about a conversation a mate and l were having about crocs and how they'll stalk you if you go to the same spot regularly
Another guy Brett wanted to get in on the conversation and he said " you know if you go to the same spot 3 times a croc will get you"
I spun that into a story about him telling us about crocs and as the tension mounted he nearly had us all sucked in until he said the buggers counted.

One short one was when l worked in a timber mill in Victoria.
One of the owner family members worked in the shed and was a bit of a slacker
His name was Victor so l wrote one on the toilet wall about him.

There's a fella here named Victor
He really is a goer
You know his mum and dad they laughed when they named him after a mower.

The guys got a real laugh about it but Victor was not amused.

I have a knack of twisting things to the amusing

Till it's Over

Ghastly sounds upon the wind,
Howling Virus ridden fiend
You won't be going too far out of doors
Till it's over.
Oh my God what has begun
Each to another we must shun
Make sure you have your mask on out of doors
Till it's over
I thought I heard once someone say
A virus might come along one day
And when it does make sure that your prepared
Till it's over
Empty malls no tramp of feet
Soldiers marching in the street
Sirens screaming count the score
Till it's over.
I never thought I'd see the day
When things would turn out quite this way
The corners turned there's no way back
Till it's over.
So steel yourself and take a breath
Where there is life there's also death
There's sure to be a treatment,we won't know
Till it's over......copyright.Ross Langlands.2020.

MegsyB007. A very powerful piece here in 2020 The Year of perfect vision.Flamin heck!...the month is not over and already there's three of worthy merit. :trophy: Your verse asks much of all of us and says a lot about others. Certainly food for thought.'who are you my fellow beings'...indeed.You are such an accompiished odist Megsy..Namaste.
My latest work might not go down so well I fear. I have had a dark, dark and troubled mind all day. I sense that we are in the midst of something evil and foreboding.Something so dire that it is almost impossible to fully comprehend. My mind races to find the positives in all of this turmoil...but can find none. I
I am angry at those whose apparent greed and selfish attitude have made it so much harder for those of us with goodwill and compassion in our hearts.Fearful that my wife and I's age puts us in dire peril if we contract the disease.Worried sick for my children and grandchildren and for the fate of all of us.Still, the wife and I carry on...we must go on...albeit at arms length!

I goes out shopping as is my task
I make sure I wears me flamin mask
To guard from covid coughing bloody coves
Who wander around the shopping-centre in droves

They bring their bloody boil infested kids
Who race around and touch the lids
Of every can or bottle of stuff I want
The flamin priest should'a drowned em' in the font

But still I goes about me task
Heaving and weasing within me mask
I'm wary of what I call the loo-paper skull- duggery
So when I get there I drops me mask and coughs like buggery.

That usually sets all and sundry on the scatter
To where they go well that's no matter
I picks a pack of toilet rolls
And out to the check out chick I strolls. Ross Langlands ...copyright 2020

Ran into a prospector out Mt Margaret way years ago, here later sent me a poem he had put together.

Great post and great poem Nightjar...I would have loved to catch up with your mate Neville Jones!...I bet he was a likable cove.. and a knowledgeable one as well! His words resonate with me and it is clear that he was a 'thinker' and a dreamer, and I like that in a man.

A Friend
A Friend came to my door yesterday
Or was that now Yesteryear
I'm sure they had so much to say
Sadly now I can not hear
Mayhap they had some Marvel to show
If only that I could still see
Then again they may have brought me some food
Oh how I wish that I could still taste
Perhaps they've botanics so oderously floral
But nowhere can I find my smell
So I reached forth so far as my reach could reveal
But nothing was there that perception could feel
Is anyone there that is true or is real
Or is life as we've known it
So Dead and Congealed

I've been keeping close to home
And feeling sad and feeling down
Since covid19 reared it's head
And ended up in my home town.

People wearing P2 masks
Go about their daily tasks
No one having much to say
Pack your stuff and After Pay.

Closed down shops an empty street
Keep well clear of those you meet
I feel like that the worlds gone mad
Not like the world we use to have

I see birds there,,, flying free
I wish that they could carry me
To someplace clean no deadly air
I hope that I would find you there

And we'd shake hands how do you do
You'll hug me and I'll hug you
Think'n about that cheers me up
May be we could raise a cup
To better times and bright blue skies
The day...when Covid 19... dies.... copyright.2020 R.Langlands

Nice thoughts of Poetry
It's nice to be here to see things come to light that ne'er were here before
When words but do a picture make with full emotion stirred
Like butterflies across the mind a flitting here and there
Tying tight that grasping light of energy and air
Leaving with unbridled might new thoughts that were not there.
