The name of this forum isnt inclusive enough?

I was a bit peeved with this comment https://www.prospectingaustralia.com/forum/viewtopic.php?pid=244381#p244381

as I have heard that sentiment quite a few times now. But, look at the name of this forum, and maybe its understandable why....

"Prospecting Australia, Gold Prospecting and Fossicking Forum"

Fossicking is a broad term, but does Not include detecting for relics/coins. Maybe the name needs to be more inclusive. We may attract more members, and share the love of detecting...outside of the goldfields

I believe that The Almighty Creator (aka Nugget) started the forum as a gold prospecting forum but it has grown to be so much more. It's a community now. We share not just our gold and treasure finds but other hobbies and interests in life.

It is what it is and it's just a name.

To be honest the name is of no concern to me & I enjoy checking out the different hobbies within the hobby on here. Most diverse forum out there I reckon.
Love seeing the different finds - gems, coins, treasure etc. That ancient yellow metal just happens to be my favourite though

Fair call rocketaroo, he was overreacting a little.
It was self inflicted though, if he didnt want to read about that subject why open the thread, read the posts and then comment.
I know I dont read every thread and im sure most other people on here are the same.

What I think he was protesting is that the forum has diversified from its beginnings due to many more people joining and adding their voices to it. Naturally people are going to post things they want to discuss and they wont always be prospecting related, theres no nees to get all worked up over it.

The forum has evolved and because of that it has grown its much preferrable to the alternative which ive seen happen to other forums over time - mods are strict on thread topics and delete things that arent within set boundaries this leads to arguments and people leaving hence the topics became stagnant and eventually the forum was canned along with some great knowledge. 8.(

As an aside under queensland fossicking permit it lists electronic detectors as a fossicking tool.
Im not a detectorist myself but I do still enjoy some their stories and seeing the artifacts they find.

Maybe your right and maybe its time to make it "Prospecting & Detecting Australia" or something along those lines, wouldnt bother me in the slightest as ill just continue to prospect they way I choose.

I like the name Prospecting Australia
Prospecting for gold with a turbo pan or a Walbanker or for coins and jewellery with my you bueat fleabay detector.
I also like that we can have topics on camping, lapidary 4x4s off road and other issues of interest to a prospecting detectorist

"Prospecting Australia" well I certainly wouldn't come to this site looking for brain surgery, but I would look in if I was interested in finding treasures in the bush or rivers maybe even underground blah blah blah!!!!

Lots of good exchange of ideas... and few cool names My take on this is... it does not matter how you seek your treasure..with a pan a highbanker.classifier or detector...you are still exercising your prospects of making a valuable find! and who determines what is valuable...well you do...we all make that call and its in the searching for what we consider valuable that we way up our prospects of making a find. So my view is that whichever way we go about seeking our individual treasures, we are all prospectors... as Australians we set off...Prospecting Australia!...theres a song in that title...might have a strum on my Cort one day and work up a melody...it'd be a good one.... round the fire...can a Tooheys.... or a shot 'a Jack chiack'n, laugh'in....hehe cheers

And here I was thinking me being a Treasure Hunter was just part of being a Prospector in Australia, and that one day I might branch out and have a go at one of the many other parts of Prospecting, like cutting stones or searching for gold spreading out down the side of a hill into a creek that no ones bothered with yet ,.... maybe even go diving in a cave to look at a wreck ,... it's all just Prospecting to me, even digging coins ,.... and I don't even mind if a few gold diggers have a go and lift a few coins on occasion, after all we're all in this together. 8.

I joined Prospecting Australia because I had an interest in panning and slicing for gold. I learnt about it from the good members of this forum. Panned my first gold, went on a couple of forum organized camps and found a little more gold.

Next came the choice of a detector. To spend the money on a serious detector you would need to use it often. The closest gold to me is 4 to 5 hours and detecting sites even farther away.

I had seen the awesome finds the coin hunters posted on the forum and I am a history fan. So I looked at coin/relic detectors as I can go to the park any day. Needless to say I became addicted to pulling coins and other treasures out of the soil.

So at this point my focus on and off the forum is coin/relic hunting but when life allows I'll be chasing the yellow again.

Plus I get involved in the off topic posts. Cooking, history, comedy, camping.... Plenty for everyone..
