Hi

Check the Miners Rights FAQ for listed places that are banned from prospecting - Steiglitz is on the OK list but check the water-ways banned list.

Check the Parks Vic site for panning location - quite specific spot

Gold panning is permitted only in the section one kilometre downstream from the Meredith Road Bridge on Sutherlands Creek. Prospectors with a miners right are permitted to use pans, cradles and hand tools within the creek bed only. Please protect the creek bank environment.

The gold I have panned in the past is small but rough, most likely due mainly the close proximity of the upstream reefs. Its a pity so much is closed off as the area looks really good gold-wise. Be aware that the track along the creek-line, last time I checked, was pretty rough. You may have to park up behind the court-house and walk down. There is a fair amount of historical stuff on the net, but unfortunately, closed off areas. I don't even know if there is any water in the creek anyway.

Good luck.

Welcome to the forum, you'll find heaps of valuable info in both current and older posts, try using the search facility and you'll be surprised at what's on here ..... a lot of you questions will be answered just by searching.
In regard to areas to try with a sluice .... bad news at most locations out west, a big lack of water in most creeks, if you know of one with water let us know.
You don't mention having used a sluice before, if you haven't try it out around the Buckleys Falls area (always some flow there from memory) to get the feel of it, will pay off when we get some water.
Cheers Tom

In close proximity to Steiglitz is Morrisons. I have found it good for alluvial gold and have collected very nice chert and petrified wood from there.

Hi redfin, I have a mate on 400 achres joining onto that area at morrisons right on dollys creek, I have only just looked at the area, done a little panning to test, it showed good signs, would be happy to take you there, we can detect on his land and we have that state park next door, I also have a 8" trommel and sluice.
cheers
