Hi Every One
Was out at the Oallen Ford recently
It’s Crowned Land on the banks of the Shoalhaven river
I know that like every were else there are rat bags making a mess leaving all there rubbish behind & racing around the area on bikes & 4wd
The Signs have been updated + installing new barriers as well
It looks like they are going to close off access from the road so no one can use it ( Not Happy )
so it seems Some One or Company has taken out a tenet/lease on the area ? Or the Crown lands is closing off ?

Any thorough ?

From what I've been able to find out these rules have been in place for some time & aren't just recent.
The "updated" signage was installed after the previous signage was illegally removed by some person/people. The only update is the "Fossicking Without a Permit" part of the sign.
NSW Crown Lands began enforcing the requirement to have a Fossicking Permit a few years ago, so that's not new or caused by any sort of tenure.
The only tenure is an Exploration Licence (EL9129) which has been in place since 2021. As the area is in a Fossicking District no permission from the EL holder (Hi Quality Quarry (NSW) Pty. Ltd.) is required but other permissions from the land manager still apply.
Best bet is get a free Temporary Fossicking Permit from NSW Crown Lands, follow the NSW Guidelines & get out there + enjoy.

To get a Temporary Fossicking Permit contact the NSW Crown Lands Goulburn office (be aware they are currently experiencing high numbers of requests due to the new sign so it may take awhile).

Let them know where you want to fossick I.e.

You could ask about the Crown Land across the river or nearby too but previously a lot was under lease & no permission granted. Not sure if the status has changed or not.

You will be OK if you have a fossicking permit.
Thanks
Yes will be getting one soon
I was looking in past topic & it seems to be a thing that come up every few years. Not much done by crown lands, apart from fencing & signage
A lot of people use the area as over night or longer camping
Thanks every one h who helped out

now I'm confused after the miners right was abolished in NSW
the new legislation states no license or permits are required to fossick in NSW, And the only permit required was for state forest and fossicking on crown land was aloud unless under lease or of native title, whereas you would need permission form the leaseholder or native council, other than that crown land under not tenement is fair game under the mining Act 1978
So has this just recently changed now

The Mining Act 1978 was superceded by the Mining Act 1992 and there's also the Forestry Act 2012 and the Crown Land Management Act 2016.

Maybe it's time for some catch-up reading?:

I did google crown lands and all it said was refer to mining act 1978 if the land was not tenanted or under tribal lands.
I thought the trade off for our miners right was to abolish all these licences and permits except for state forests. So eventually they'll just implement it all back in,and we'll be no better off but have lost our right to prospect

That's pretty much exactly what they've done in a nutshell.
I wanted to try get the NSW Miners Right back years ago but most were happy it was gone & didn't think we should pay etc.
Now look where we are & we'd have next to no chance of having a Miners Right like Victoria again now.

So a bit of an up date to the Oallen Ford NSW crown land area
They have had quite a few people contact them about this area & I have receive an email with new/revised map

I got the same email from Ms Harmer. I was wondering when they'd reply to my application for a temporary fossicking permit, I sent it nearly a month ago. I note that while the letter with the map says we do not need consent to fossick on crown land with no lease/license/crown land manager, the 'Guide to Fossicking in NSW' document they also sent flat out states that 'fossickers do not have the right to enter crown land', with no exceptions noted. Maybe this will get updated when that document gets revised... until then I will keep a printout of Ms Harmer's letter in my kit :)
