As many may know, I have been playing with a number of Falsing Garrett Pro Pointers, with not the results I hoped for.

A number of people from here and AMDRH have donated and or sent their unit to me and if I could not fix; then to use for parts / testing.

I have destroyed a couple, wasted many hrs and used too many switches :) And also used lots of bad words; much to the distress of my wife :)

Result: I think I may have cracked it ... 2 more fresh Falsing Garrett Pro Pointers on their way for me to apply my final solution. Then to be returned for testing and to see if they remain stable....

My ethics and Morals place me in a Quandary: If all works out as hoped. What do I do with the 5 remaining units ?

For many reasons, I have no idea who was the original owner, of which Garrett Pro Pointer and they are in different physical condition - USED.

Possiable OUTCOME if Admins and any ex-owners (who ever you are) are happy.:

A: Both AMDRH and PA have One Garrett pro pointer donated / supplied as a Prize for a competition - open to ALL.

* That leave 3 units for me to then sell and recover some $ for my efforts. (I break even )

* Future repairs should have a better outcome

B: I sell the 5 Units and donate $50 to each Forum? (I break even and maybe make a bit )

* Future repairs should have a better outcome

C: I sell the 5 Units and count my self-lucky to have found a fix - And make a few $$$

* Future repairs should have a better outcome

Maybe a Poll should be run (A/B/C) and we go with the results ?

C as well,

If people have donated them for you to dissect, they would not expect them back? If they want them back charge $50 in labour costs for the parts and the innovation? Time and knowledge should not and is not free ask any Solicitor or anaesthetist. 8)

P.s. My advice is worth what you have paid for it! :p

Cheers

RS

I vote a fun comp, only open to newbies with more than 20 real posts to date. That honestly....dont own a pinpointer, but need one. Best 50 to 100 words, why they should win :)

I feel it is a bit of a personal decision on your behalf, if you feel that it is essential to recover costs for your time and effort on discovering a fix, plus have some coin left over to pay the dreaded bills, then option C may be the best outcome for you (and the wife).

Those that donated their units shouldn't expect them back, they were originally sent on the proviso that they were for tinkering with & R&D.

Though giving a couple away on both forums and selling the remainder could provide your business with some good exposure for the future if you require it, vs selling the whole lot. Depends how generous you feel, and whether you are happy to just cover costs/time involved. ;)

Thanks guys -

You have given me something to think about.

Would still like to offer something to the forum as this is just a hobby for me - and your support and the fourm's is appreciated.

After some additional comments from some....

As the owners were all advised before hand that a fix could not be ensured. They agreed that the units could be used for R&D. I did manage to send a couple off and at least one of those has started faulsing again.. I think the owner is over it.

The boards have been removed and swapped around as well as caps... So the issue is that the 5 units are made up from all the different ones. As it was only once I destroyed a couple and one is held together by heat shrink (not to be sold) that I believe I found the root cause.

So yes, if anyone has the serial number of their unit, I can see if it is still visible on the end cap. As to which Pro Pointer it may have belonged to ??

Thus I am happy to offer a chance for the original owner to have first option to buy back.. But the only original part would be the end cap.

Trust this all makes sense.

PS: It was never my intention to keep any item of equipment under false pretences with the intent to make a few $$$.
