Looking for opinions of people who have had some time on the gold with a 2300.
Sold my 4500 a couple of years ago when we left the WA goldfields.
I've just bought a 2300 and am wondering if I should have something like a GPX3500 or SD2200 in the back seat as well.
Everything I've read about the 2300 says that it's great at finding the small nuggets that've been overlooked by its big brothers,
but should I have another machine to cover it's limitations.
I'd hate to think I'm walking over bricks of gold that are too deep for the 2300

What's your experience?

I love my 2200 (and still have it) and use a 4500. If boiled down to a choice however, the 3500 - IMO - bit more flexibility with coils , stability on hot ground etc. more recent technology, has auto GB (you can get the 2200 modded for the GB button).

i just made a really great answer and then pressed the wrong button so i will try again

i have tested the sdc vs 3500 at berringa and dug a hole and buried a small piece of gold about 3 inches deep both could see the gold ok but the sdc was definitely clearer

i would think the sdc will see just about all the gold you happen to walk over up to the limits of the coil diameter

try and test its range in air with a 5 cent coin and a 20 cent coin and even a coke can

the coke can should be visible at about 4 feet on a good detector but i havnt tried it on the sdc

at least if you make these tests you will have a better idea about whether you need another detector or not

be nice if you publish your results

cheers

Thanks Guys. Yesterday i watched Minelab's new 7000 intro video. It tells us that the 2300 doesn't see large gold at any real depth. They also advocate using the 7000 in the 'Small Gold' setting (for the best chance of finding more gold), according to their graphs in that setting the 7000 compares with the 2300, and both outperform the 5000.
So, I reckon the go is .. just get out there with the 2300, find 10k worth of gold and trade it all in for a 7000.
See you out there :p
