Sorry to hear Patrick, know the feeling all to well. Lost my two best mates/my children maltese x shih Tzu about two years ago now, one to old age and had to put down and the other to separation with ex. Still wonder if second one is still alive as he would be getting old now too. IT HURTS, on my own now and get lonely but don't think I could put myself through it getting another one.
RIP LILY!!

A sad day Patrick. I am sorry for your loss. I have avoided this topic all day as I also have felt the pain of losing a loved companion. My old mate Boof, a blue healer, collie X was most likely taken by people who organize dog fights. They were very active in my area at the time.
Old Boofa never strayed away from home. The only time he was out of the yard was either with me or when I was mowing the lawn and left the gate open and he would wander around very close to me. If he was left outside the yard he would bark to let us know he wanted to be let in.
Such a placid and gentle dog. To think that he came to a violent, horrific end is hard to take.

My thoughts are with you.

Jeez Pat, you were just speaking fondly of her to us at the camp on the weekend. This is so sad. My condolences to you and Bridg. These words are just so inadequate for the loss of your loved Lily. I know you both will have so many fond memories that will be with you for ever.

Sorry to hear of your loss Pat,
Still not over losing my all time companion buddy and it IS JUST AS HARD as losing a fellow human being.
It can be even harder if you don't have your own kid's to fall back on in times like these as well.
R.I.P Lily and may you have a humungous bone to chew on up there matey

I Hope Bridget and your spirits get lifted by a huge nugget mate

Hi Patrick,

Very sorry to read about Lily and feel you're pain , have also lost a few good mates over the years...My now little girl Bella cross Cav & Beagle is 13 years old and can see she's not got much longer to go, breaks my heart even though she's a pain in the ass and I swear she thinks she's human and has the same rights as us.

Cheers John

I know where you are coming from Pat, had to put down both of our dogs (kids) this year. Our Skye terrier-X Angus was first to go, aged around 5 years, and second was our 15 year old Jack Russell Scully. Needless to say the house now feels rather empty with no one to greet to you anymore. Took me several weeks to stop breaking out in tears at the thought of them, might get a new companion again when the time and circumstances are right. 8.(

Very sorry to hear that sad news Pat and Bridget, best wishes to you and enjoy the memories, they will last until the end mate.
Regards Eric.

I had my own journey yesterday. My 16 year old Maltese girl, had to have her left eye removed.
I know you understand my grief and if you don't then you don't have pets.
I am told by the specialist that did the surgery went well.
However, I pray that I made the right decision, only time will tell.
A bucket full of tears didn't help her, yesterday, so I am praying for tomorrow and the next tomorrow.
Mackka

Thanks Jaros,
I always ask myself the question: Am I keeping her alive for ME or does she still enjoy living?
The Honest Truth is , I don't know but tonight she ate well for the first time and also drank a lot.
I can only hope that I have done the right thing, for Her. I love her like any Father loves a 16 year old child.
Tears still flowing , but that's because I am an emotional person, no it's because I love Her.

Our 10 yr old Cocker Spaniel has only just begun having ear problems, Th e Vet says we have been lucky-but we take care of him wel we think. We have always used Otiderm do clean his ears but now the Vet says to use nothing as he has struggled with a fungal ear infection but is getting better all the time. We love him as he is 'our child" and I am dreading when the time comes as I really took it hard after we had to put down our Boxer with a brain bleed.
One step at a time

Best Wishes for your Cocker mate.
We have spent over $30,000 on Mandy in the past 12 years and I would spend double that to make sure that she is happy and healthy.
I know that many out there are thinking, Mate for 30 cents I can save you heaps!
She is a family member like any of my children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Best Regards Jaros
Mackka

I share you pain Pat and concerns Mackka, Rigby has just had two cancer surgeries and fortunately all has gone well and he is back to his old self. I've lost too many pets over the years and it always rips one apart, yet they are such an integral part of our lives, I am quickly down to a pound to find another mate who has hit hard times.

As far as I am concerned a House without a 4 legged mate is not a home. I believe the best therapy for the pain of a loss is finding another hard done by soul that is looking for your love, the AWL is full of them.

That's great news about Rigby mate. They are family members and should be treated as such. The AWL and other groups do fantastic work.
Cheers
Mackka

Thanks mate, hopefully no more lumps develop and I sincerely hope Mandy keeps improving.

AWL is one of our charities together with Guide Dogs, Rigby came from them when he was 5 wks old as did our cat.
