Having spent a couple of years in SA Rick, I thoroughly recommend any of the roads out.

Cheers

Doug

Not much to see in Yatala! :playful:

Never went anywhere near the place. Spent most of my time trying to get out of RAAF Edinburgh.

Cheers

Doug

I spent 20 years on that base, you don't get that long for Murder. :) But as I'm from here, lol......

It depends on how far you want to drive. Given you mentioned a hire car, I assume you will be flying in. Goolwa and Victor Harbour are a bit over 80kms form Adelaide. However Adelaide to Wilpena Pound is about 430kms each way.

If you want to spend time around Adelaide, Goolwa etc being one area, there are other areas within a couple of hours drive of there.

1. The Adelaide Hills, Hahndorf, Mt Barker, Bridgewater, Aldgate, for 2-3 days. Within 20-40 kms of Adelaide to the east.
2. Barossa Valley, Tanunda, Nuriootpa, Angaston, for the wineries. also 2-3 days. About the same distance north of Adelaide as Goolwa is to the south.

Google these 2 areas, plenty of info online. :)

Flinders ranges reminds me of the surface of Mars. Great if you like the deserts. Down south is much nicer, but you're gonna be very cold, especially coming from Cairns.

Yes I was thinking it would b a bit nippy at that time of year. Im fairly well padded so I handle the cold reasonably well. :D Booked two nights in Bethany to check out the wine area then a night in the city before we fly home. I will printout the places suggested by everyone and see as much as we can. Thank you all for helping out. Cheers Rick

Condor22 has the idea.

Coming to SA in Winter is not going to be seeing it at its moderate best, but that is with anywhere.

You can call them and ask for suggestions, be aware they might not be that helpful.

7 days in Goolwa,

Goolwa is at the Murray Mouth but you need a 4WD to actually get to it, or there are boat cruises that do day trip from Goolwa to the mouth and into the Coorong.
Not too expensive last I looked, and easy way to look at nature.

From Goolwa to Port Elliot, Pt Elliot beach has a lot of Detectorists hunt there, it is a small horse shoe shaped beach, nice spot. Then on to Victor Harbour, "Encounter Bay" Mathew Flinders met a French ship in this Bay, they had a cup of tea instead of shooting each other up (British and French at War at that time).
Granite Island
The Bluff
Whale Centre / watching
Fish Farm just off the coast, you can tour and even swim with them
They have a tourist centre there also

VH to Cape Jervois,
There are a number of tourist walks in National Parks (you pay online for an entry permit)
Good fishing beaches, and for a walk (Kato detected Waitpinga Beach at the Western end by the rocks (a carpark above) found some interesting stuff old and new.
From VH Bluff there is a bushwalk all the way to Cp Jervois along the coast. But no shops or anything.
C Jervios is where you will get onto the Ferry to KI
Nice small beaches around C Jervois

Heading toward Adelaide from C Jerv there are small towns and beaches, wineries etc, day tripping stuff.

Back to the Adelaide Hills from Goolwa, you can get to a lot of Towns and follow the path to Barossa Valley wineries and historic tours.
There are Coach tours for wineries (safe for your license and you can drink without fear.) in the Goolwa region and Adelaide Hills/Barossa
Book with Nenad or at least consult him, you never know how it may work out unless you ask.

Down the South East, it is a bit of a long and colourless trip, but there are some good things to see.
Same heading to the Flinders Ranges, but out North you have towns that are historically detectable and rail towns almost gone now, research that.

KI is a great destination, you should enjoy that place, cant help but to be a tourist on an overseas trip when you are there. LOL

There are some weird and strange tours in Adelaide, some historical, etc Lots of building history, museums etc

Hope I may have helped any..

If you're planning a night or 2 in adelaide I'd suggest find a hotel in the city centre. At least you'll be walking distance to look around and plenty of nice places to eat. North terrace theres several decent hotels and on the same street you've got things like the museum, art gallery and even the casino which has some great restaurants in it, and rundle mall an easy 5 minutes walk from each other. :Y:

North Terrace opposite the railway station is where the Covid Hotel is. LOL

I put the wife and one of the kids up in the Grovesner, an older Hotel and smallish rooms, but at $80 a night was okay overnight.
(Grovesner is not a Covid Hotel)

She came home telling me of the police presence in the Hotel next door, I told her it was the Covid Hotel and that is why her room was so cheap !

Yep, that set off the fireworks.

O:)

I lived in Aldgate (working for Codan) for 4 years and loved it. The Aldgate Pump Hotel was amazing, as was the Norton Summit Hotel (stopped at twice a week after work to watch the sunsets with a few ales).
Beautiful Country, with Mt Lofty Zoo and the wineries. My son was born in Stirling Hospital :perfect:

They still are and unlike your current abode, you can go there for a drink. :)

Sorry that's cruel, lol. Sincerely hope things improve for Melbourne soon.... :Y:

Grosvenor is opposite the train station. The Playford is down further which was a covid aka inbound traveller hotel.

These days I dont think the Playford is any longer, and if anything the Playford is possibly Adelaides cleanest hotel after all the sanitizing.

There's at least 5 hotels on that street.
