Spacex has had 8 launches this year. Only 2 paying customers The rest have been Starlink launches. So not much income coming in from launching.

Starlink is expected to be a big income stream. I have registered to be a beta tester. Not even sure when it will be available down under but after the latest launch, #8, they say the will have world wide coverage once this batch gets into the correct orbit.

Glenn Shotwell believes they will be launching private customers to the ISS fairly soon. They are also working with Bigelow Aerospace who make inflatable modules and plan on building a private space station. The modules a much larger than "solid" modules and apparently offer better protection from radiation and impacts.

They have a module currently docked to the ISS. It has passed it's test and been up there longer than anticipated. Currently used for storage.

Exciting times.

Hope they don't have sharps up there if they intend to use a balloon.......

It's Gwynne Shotwell... {) Unless Glenn is her Husband... :)

Great Spacex Docco on Discovery last night and one on right now about Spacex's amazing launch... :Y:

Bahaha. Thanks Gwynne. Fast progress for sure. The SN7 small tank was using the 304L staino. L for low carbon. Apparently easier to weld. Spacex working on their own, updated version to improve welding and strength at cryo temps. SN5 n SN6 old school 301 staino can still be used for early flight tests as they don't need to be fully fueled/pressurized for short hops. Progress.

Rocketlab lost a vehicle in today's launch. At the time of the battery hot swap on the 2nd stage, telemetry showed the rocket slowing. Next the speed started to increase as the altitude decreased.... falling back to Earth. First guess are the hot swap had an issue and the engine shut down. The Rutherford engines on the Electron use electric fuel pumps. They dump 2 batteries when depleted and hot swap to a new set. Gets rid of weight.

Well 2 of the Mars missions have launched. A Japanese rocket sent the UAE orbiter on it's way. It is the ESA mission that is delayed for 2 years. Chine launched it's Orbiter, lander, rover combo yesterday. We just have NASA's Perserverance rover to launch in the coming weeks.

Spacex had another successful launch and landing of the Falcon 9 booster plus this time they managed to catch both fairing halves. This was the booster that sent Astronauts Bob and Doug to the ISS. It was turned around to relaunch in 51 days which is a new record and beating the Shuttle at 54 days.

News early today that the Dragon capsule currently docked at the ISS will be reused next year for another crew launch and the sae booster will also be reused for that mission.

A Soyuz also launched a Progress cargo vessel to the ISS. Busy times.

Starship SN7 should do it's 150 metre hop in the next few days.

The wings off Starship Mk1 are now forming part of the roof of a new restaurant being built at the Boca Chica shipyard. Good way to re use old components. Starhopper now serves duty as a camera, weather, radar platform adn has picnic tables underneath for workers to eat lunch, relax etc.

The Chinese Mars mission will be very interesting to follow, as it's hugely ambitious to be trying for the three card trick: orbiter, lander and rover. Getting to Mars is the easy part, but slowing down a lander in the thin atmosphere while countering the weak gravity for an intact, on-target landing, has proven very tricky in the past and only NASA have consistently mastered the art. We'll never hear the end of it if the Chinese get it right first time.
