You can go to http://www.bluesheet.com.au/Identify/ and get a basic value of any Australian coin by using the lowest grade.
eg. your 1935 sixpence is worth around $12 for the lowest grade.

I'm whit Dejan027 Alfie, The Blue Sheet is the best way to start (love the Blue Sheet 
).
If you go through a coin dealer, they will charge you to value your coins. Look through the Blue Sheet, work out if you have any $$ coinage. If you think you do, then go to the dealer. Of course they will charge you, but at least you won't be loosing out
